Just curious if those of you who have bought houses have bought your Realtor a gift for all that he/she has done? Also wondering if you did it upon the contract being accepted or at closing? Our Realtor has been super and I just feel like doing something nice for her.

Personally 3% of what I am paying is a nice gift LOL!

Our realtor bought us a gift. A hanging plant. I thought it was nice of her.

We also got a gift from our realtor - a basket of treats - pasta, sauce, candy and such....we ate it our first night in the new house.

We got flowers from our realtor when we bought our first house! :sunny:

I know she gets a nice 3% commission, however, I just thought it would be nice to do something nice for her for all of her hard work. But I guess it is sounding like that isn't the norm.

That 3% commission isn't a gift, it's her salary for working to sell your house.

If you feel that she gave you exemplary service, then I see no reason why you shouldn't give her a gift. If you know her fairly well(and at this point you may, if you have spent a lot of time together) think of what she has mentioned that she likes. Maybe a particular clothing store or a restaurant??? Even a nice plant would be a lovely gestrue. At the very least, if oyu really feel like she did an exemplary job, a letter to her manager complimenting her would be great.

3%!!!!!! You all have it made. Around here commission is like 6%. I know it's their salary, but it's a big chunk of change out of my pocket. We didn't get our agent anything. He gave us some forgettable presents though.

I work in a real estate office. We usually give a welcome home basket to our clients. One a few occasions realtors receive gifts from clients, typically they receive flowers, gift cards, or chocolates. In my selfish opinion I would recommend chocolates because the whole office gets to enjoy them ;) :cool1:

How nice of you to consider doing this for your realtor! Everyone likes to recognized for going "above and beyond!" Certainly a quick note for her boss would be wonderful! As far as a gift, a gift certificate for a local restaurant, a store that you think she would like, or, if you think she would enjoy a bottle of wine, would all be appropriate!

I am a Realtor so thought I would comment! I can say that most of us probably do not expect a gift from a client but sometimes we do get them, and as the previous post mentioned it is very nice to be recognized! I think any of the things mentioned above would be appropriate, or a nice plant delivered to her office. And definitely include a letter to her broker in charge...it really means alot to be complemented in writing!

DH is also a realtor and it is never expected and I agree that it is nice to be recognized for doing a great job for someone. He really puts forth alot of effort for his clients and they seem to appreciate it. He also sends a gift basket to his clients after closing.

Some of the things he has been given were GC for dinner, bottle of wine, invitation to the house warming as well as other things over the years. We have become friends with many of the families he has worked with.

It is great that the OP wants to do something nice for someone. I would suggest giving or sending the gift at closing, that is where the final work is done!

My realtor gave us a wonderful present. He commisioned an artist to do a watercolor of our new house, and it came framed and matted delivered to our new house. (We had no idea that this was coming)

We, after closing, sent a very nice thank you card. Since the present came after closing, we were very suprised.

It is typically5-7% everywhere, I believe. The 3% mentioned refers to half the total 6% commission that the buyer and seller's agent split.

That 6% is split between listing and selling broker so your selling broler gets 3%. The actual sales person(s) get 1 1/2 %( or a cut of that if more than one person is on the contract)
While not expected a gift would be a nice gesture. Something small
Btw my husband is a realtor and he gives his buyers a piece of Tupperware that they can use in their new house.

We didn't buy our realtor anything..figured she was doing her job and made a portion of the sale anyway!

You're right. My listing agent is getting 1.5% off the sale of my home. That's 6525.00! I think that's plenty, especially considering he never showed my home (I did, all three times to the buyer), and he only had the listing for 3 weeks. That's more than what my dh makes working a full time job all month! I think an extra gift is very unnecessary. In fact, I think he should be sending ME one! :teeth:

Actually any broker we have done business with has given us a gift. I would not think of giving them a gift as they just got a cut from the sale.

Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate them.

For clarification, the total commission is 6%, my agent gets 3% and the listing agent gets 3%. My agent works for a company where they get 100% commission, so she will get the full 3%, nothing shared with the broker. I do recognize this is her pay for services rendered, but I still think I will do something nice for her at the end.

Thanks again.

Just 3%? It's 6%!

Actually, she bought me a nice basket of things. But after that I took her out for lunch.
