Gift Cards ?

That could be that stores policy if they are getting complaints about running out. Most store don't limit you on the amount of cards you want to buy.
Actually, a bit of a followup.

There's a newer, but relatively tiny Target that's the closest one to my house that we don't normally go to. So, when I bought $400 more there yesterday (all $100 GCs!), I asked. They said that there IS, in fact, a $500 limit on gift cards, but they rarely enforce it. She said it was her understanding that they normally only do around the holidays.

Both stores I went to had plenty of GCs. The smaller one had enough that I could've bought for my whole trip. We're just spacing out paying for it.

Good to know.

No matter where you buy them, register them on disneygiftcard.com before using them, especially when you're giving them to kids for spending money. If one gets dropped and lost, you can easily hop onto the web site and move the remaining value to a different card. Ask me how I know...LOL! We've had to do it twice now, my 13 year old DS brings a friend to WDW with us that has major drop-itis, love this kid, but man...

You can register 4 cards at a time on your account, so I like to have a few registered for shifting around if needed. Sam's club sells them in two-packs of $50 value each for about $95.

How do you use the ones you combined at Disney? Is this to pay off your room/package?

I believe you can have up to 5 cards listed Disney gift card site, not 4, with a maximum balance on each card at $1000. That's not to say that you can't have more gift cards, you just can't register them all on the site unless you transfer balances and keep to the limit of 5 cards registered on the site.

What I don't like about moving money between cards is that you can only transfer the entire balance of one card onto another. You can't move a smaller amount.

We use gift cards mostly for dining. Like our own personal, pre-paid "dining plan". Any leftover money on the cards can go toward souvenirs, snacks, drinks, with no wasted money.

I also used gift cards to pay for the Star Wars dessert party. However, I heard that you can only use one gift card to pay for it so I had to transfer balances from other cards to one before I paid for it. Something to keep in mind.

Yes, you can use them toward the cost of your room.

You're right - it is 5 and not 4, oops! I totally agree that it would be nice to move portions of cards. I would like to be able to have a few more cards in my account as well, but then again, if I could move portions I wouldn't have the need for more cards. I like to feed a bit of value at a time to my DS and his friend.

To your original question - gift cards are sold EVERYWHERE in Disney World. They can be found at most cash counters (with the exception of restaurants) and you choose from a small variety of designs and put whatever dollar amount you like on them - the minimum amount being $5.

I too am Canadian and jealous that we can neither get the cards ahead of time or get the discount so many of our American friends take advantage of at Target.

Another Canadian here, we have seen reports that the ones sold in the Canadian disney stores now work on property. We bought one yesterday and on the back it states WDW and DL.

I live in Texas and I buy Disney gift cards at Sam's. They have a $100 gift card for $93.00. So, I buy as many as I can and use them to pay off the trip. So, for example last year we stayed at AoA Cars Suite and ended up saving around $500 total. :)

I'm buying $900/month to pay for our trip in August.

Went to one of the Targets in the area. They had 5 $100s, and I bought the rest in $50s... or I tried to. The manager told us that there was a $500/day limit. I've never run into this before; we just bought $900 a few weeks ago (I wait until the billing period ends to get more). Anyone ever heard of a limit?

It might vary depending on area. I never had an issue buying $2000 at once last year, but this year, when I tried, they stopped scanning around $1400. A manager came over and said that there was a new law this year limiting it to $1000 per day, but the computer will still scan over a bit, but not let you actually purchase over $1000. She didn't specify how local the law was.

Does anyone know if Disney gift cards are purchasable at WDW (for ds13) ? We are buying a 100$ gift card for him to spend for his birthday. If yes, could someone put the names of stores that have those in each Theme Park ? Thanks!
Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but if you have a Sam's close by they have 3 $50 gift cards and $500 gift cards that are 5% off, you pay $475 for the $500 gift card and it has $500 on it. Don't know how much you want to spend, but any extra can be used to buy food, etc.

.......
At my local Sam's there is a sign right next to the $500 cards that says "limit one". I won't buy from Sam's since they raised the price of the $500 cards from $474.98 to $479.98.

It seems a lot of Sam's are upping the price of the $500 cards. The $500 cards were a little over 5% off at $474.98 but are now more. But the pack of $150 has always been lower than 5% off at $142.98. (4.68%)

Target Red Card is the lowest option for me in my area. I'm jealous of those of you who have the Sam's that have not raised their price.

Edited: never mind, I used The Google (as my mother calls it ;)) and found the answer. Thanks for the info.

Interesting. How was the abysmal exchange handled?

Has anyone used free shipping .com for cash back, specifically on Sam's for Disney gift cards? Their site says 10% Cb but also says it excludes GCs. Im wondering g if it does in fact come through (as sometimes that is for the store GCs not the external ones they sell).

Yes. We've used GCs for not only spending money at the parks, but to pay for our vacations. With the cruise we did last year, this will be our 4th vacation at 5% off. I'm guessing we'll have saved somewhere around $1,000 after this one.

I'm thinking we're going to bring down 4x$500 in GCs (combined on disneygiftcard.com). That way, JUST IN CASE one gets lost, we can combine it with another before anything happens.

What we did last time was to accumulate charges for a few days, and then bring them down to the concierge desk to pay down our bill.
