Gift Cards

What I don't understand is if "I" received a gift card for $25.00 for a restaurant, that gift is for my meal. I surely could get a meal and drink for that. The gift was not for me to take someone with me.

If "DH and I" received a gift card for $25.00 for a restaurant that was a bit more pricey, surely it could cover a cup of coffee for each of us and a dessert to share that would be a treat one evening.

As for buying gift cards from your child because they prefer the money, (I believe a college student) there are numerous sites to sell them online. I would have them sell them or use them, but that is me.

I would buy myself what I wanted and put the GC toward the purchase. Less I have to spend out of pocket is OK by me.

One man's tacky is another man's treasure!!!

All I know is my ds got $350.00 in gift cards this year.
Great you say? Well guess who now forked over a $350. check cause he'd rather have the cash put into his account ...to use during the school year while hes away at college..

So I guess Ill be going to..
Starbucks
Dunkin Donuts
a Mall
and thankfully a few Visa cards..
Yeah I love Gift cards...Not really :rotfl2:

Well that is your choice, if it was my kid I might buy the ones I already went to, if not then he can figure it out. He can get things with Visa gift cards at school, so I am not sure why you would need to buy those. And if there is a SB or DD then he can use them there too, even if he is like me and he doesnt drink coffee, he can get a muffin or a breakfast sandwich.

That was a personal choice. You decided to buy them so your choice to be out $350. It was nice of you to do, but it wasn't a need of his.

I respect those who give and receiver 25 dollar gift cards. To each their own. I just personally, as someone who does not go out often, do not understand giving a gift card you know will not cover a full meal.

But again, to each their own! :)

I can also say I have never received a restaurant gift card nor can I imgine because I don't go out often.

It is truly not about the dollar amount but the thought that counts! That person took the time out of their day to give two thoughts about you and bought you a gift card to a restaurant. Just because something doesn't cover a full meal doesn't mean that it's not a good gift! There is ways to make that $25 gift card pay for your whole meal bill otherwise they subtract the $25 from your whole bill.

I like to receive gift cards but prefer to purchase a gift for others. I would rather purchase something nice on sale for a gift.

I wonder if Kenny Chesney likes to get gift cards! Hmmmm.......

I can understand that someone who doesn't eat out a lot might not want a restaurant gift card that they would need to add to. They haven't budgeted the money and in order to use it, they need to lay out money that's not in their budget. DD and I on the other hand, eat out more than we should. I would love a $25 gift card because it saves me from spending money that I have budgeted for eating out and I can spend it elsewhere. Or perhaps I would get a more expensive entree or a dessert and feel like I've been treated. That's because eating out is something we do quite often.

That gives me something to think about when gifting.

I'm sure Hoda and Kathie Lee can afford to indulge any little whim they have so the allure of a gift card would be greatly reduced for them.

I thought this too. There aren't too many gift cards I couldn't happily spend!

I love gift cards for me and for my kids. I also like actual gifts, but most things a for me or my home I prefer to pick out myself. My girls love to shop so gift cards for them are twice the fun. My oldest realized this year that a $25 gift card to American eagle goes pretty far especially when combined with a coupon. She was thrilled.

I thought of this thread last night as I used gift cards to pay for my dinner & my dad's dinner at TGI Friday's, bought some Kindle books on Amazon using more gift cards and was shopping at Best Buy & Barnes & Noble with other gift cards. I still have gift cards for Olive Garden and Panera Bread to use.
