Gift cards for room charges

Has anyone had success adding gift cards to their magic bands to use for room charges? Coronado said I couldn't.

Why not just charge back to the room and then pay with gift cards at the front desk? That is what I did my last few trips

We just charged away and then at some point prior to check-out when to the front desk and had all the cards applied to our room charge. They did not want to apply the cards prior to there being any charges though.

This is what we do. Although I try to go to the front desk to apply gift cards every couple of days. If you reach your maximum on charging, they'll apply it to your credit card. The maximum varies by resort category (something like $500 for value; $1,000 for moderate; $1500 deluxe).

Also, you can apply gift cards to your resort reservation before you arrive. You just call and give them the numbers. (That is different than your room charges, but thought it might be helpful to know.)

Some will allow you, I was just at AKV in September and I had a $500GC. I went down at checkin and wanted the GC applied so I didn't have to worry about coming down and getting it applied. The lady was very hesitant in applying the entire GC without a balance on my account but finally she did it. She informed me numerous times that they would be unable to offer any sort of refund if I did not spend the full amount. But this was day one of a week long trip so I wasn't concerned about that.

I asked a question about gift cards a while back but I have another question and you guys seem very knowledgable. If I have room charges of 700 during our trip can I apply a 500 gift card and then continue to charge or do I have to pay off the entire balance when I make a payment?

You could just apply your gift card amount and it will decrease your balance accordingly.

You are right and I corrected my post. Thanks for catching that! I was trying to do more than one thing at a time.

It is not necessary to go to the front desk every couple of days to add GC's to your balance. if they do charge your credit card they will credit the card when you present the GC's.
I use a combo of Disney cards and Visa rewards cards. They will not take the entire amount of the Visa GC eg. a $100.00 GC they apply approximately $93.50. If I go back the next day they take another small percentage from the card. The monies are held for tipping.
