Hello! I was just wondering if anyone has used Disney gift cards for gratuities before? I called today to verify that I would be able to use them for my tips. I was told I could, but I just wanted to check with you all to see if it made things harder, or if it worked out all right. I prefer to save money by rolling it right into gift cards so I'm not tempted to use it elsewhere. Thanx!

bumping cause I want tips/answer to this myself...

thinking of buying a gift card with what I calculated as enough to cover all the tips for our trip... this way it is set aside and I don't end up shortchanging someone... but will it work easy?

I'm on the dxdp, so would only need to pay tips. (and if we get a specialty drink, which i doubt.)

That's what I've done my last couple of trips. Never had a problem. They'll give you several receipts--one showing how much your meals would have cost, one showing a bunch of zeros and how many DDP credits you have left, and one showing how much they took off the gift card for the gratuity and how much is left on it.

Ok, awesome! Thanx for the verification! I am always nervous to believe something that one person says. As long as I hear it from multiple people I feel good about it!

Never thought of doing this but it's a good idea so you aren't tempted to spend that money elsewhere! :)
I like doing it b/c there is always something that comes up that I could use the money on. This way I can't spend it. Yesterday after I finished selling my products at a flea market I went to Giant Eagle and bought some cards, then labeled them on the back with which restaurants I would be using them on, and then put them in the gratuity envelopes I made. I like that I earn fuelperks at GE too. That's another bonus.

Don't forget you will need some cash for a few things: bellman, mousekeeping, balloons, a few food stalls don't take credit, vendors selling light up toys at evening shows and it is always nice to have some extra cash on hand in case someone has a meltdown and waiting for a disney bus just isn't a pleasant thought so jumping in a taxi sounds like heaven.

Also remember that any money you have left on a GC can't be exchanged for cash, so I wouldn't put all my eggs in the gift card basket.

Yeah, I am only going to put on a GC the tip money, that way all those other 'cash' things don't leave me at a table going 'oh crap how do I pay the tip!?'

I do this every year. :) This is the first year that my DS is old enough for the Dining Plan. We used to get a 200 gift card for his extra meals and tips!

I would probably just charge it to the room and go down and use the GC there so I did not have to carry another card with me.

Yeah, we have our envelopes ready to go for cash, and have just started filling them!

We decided to do two out of pocket meals along with our dining plan, so we need a little extra! I figure anything extra can be used on souvenirs!

Good point! We charged everything to our room last time, so maybe I will do that again and use the cards to pay it down. Thanks for the idea! I didn't even think about it!
