Gift card:what am I missing here?

I priced out two vacations on the Disney special offers page. The room only discount was $500 cheaper than the $500 gift card option. Doesn't it look like they are just adding the price of the card onto the package?

I guess with your example, all depends on what type of discount you want. The only advantage (all other things being equal like needing tickets since you HAVE to get a 5 day with the giftcard) is that with the giftcard package, you can charge it to Disney Visa and get 6 months zeron interst. The room only can only be a package if you get it with tickets and can't be put on the 6 months no interest as a room only. Some have said they end up saving something with only 5 days booked and the giftcard if you need the tickets. AP holders really aren't too interested in this offer since it requires a 5 day pass purchase per person. I really don't know what you're actually comparing to say anything else.

Pretty much. I've quoted some where the gift card was about $10 cheaper. The way to really save money is to do the GC, but DO NOT pick up the dining plan, and use the GC to pay for meals. Also, you can only purchase base park tickets, and upgrade to park hoppers/water park at the gate, and pay with the gc.

I found that I saved 750 with a room only at a moderate but would have only gotten a 500 gc at the same hotel, i'm fine with the 250 extra savings.

Was your trip much longer than 5 nights? I've noticed this as well with longer trips. It's the ones that are only 5-6 nights that seem to be close in price.

Op you are correct. We were booked at WL on the GC offer. Well I should have done my homework and I didnt. I looked at the room only discount and built the package myself and lo and behold it was 700 dollars cheaper. So essentially you are paying for the GC. We decided to go back to our favourite resort and saved 1500.00 by booking it room only and adding on the tickets and dining seperately.
