According to a report on Breakfast TV this morning, in his budget on Thursday the chancellor is about to raise the current allowance from £135 to £1,000. I should be able to go through customs without red cheeks if it's true. :cool1:

I really hope that's true. We're off tomorrow!

Just read about it - it's not likely to be introduced until the end of next year!

That's great news when it happens!

Gordon, here is a little Pixie Dust for you to introduce it sooner rather than later :wizard: :wizard:

:teeth:

can someone explain in basic terms what this means

Basically, you can bring home £1000 worth of gifts/ souveniers, instead of just £135 without having to declare at customs - ie pay custom duty.
Let's face it, what can be bought nowadays for £135!

still buy my nail gun when i go half price of over here saving £200.00 if 4 go the total amount you can bring back is 4 x £135 = £540.00 fo the family so the old limit is still not as bad as most made out new one even better just have to pay exxes bagage now

we going scheduled anyway i was saying when it go`s up to £1000.00 how many tools i could bring back there hevier than Clothes

Limits can't be 'clubbed together' Paul so your nail gun might be over the limit still. Customs may look at your case very hard as well!

had no problems bringing one througth last year even told tsa agent showed them a photo and they sad it was not a problem they said you can take a gun as long as it is in the hold but no ammo checked there web site gefore buying

Yes, I think it was...I'm sure I heard Gordon saying that he is recom. that the allowance out of non EU Countries will increase from £145 to £1000.
If true, thats £1000 worth of nice white trainers from Beltz!! ;)

Hi,
As I understand it this proposal has to get EU approval, another example of how we are losing control of our Country but hey that's another story...!

Mick.

:smooth:
