Has anyone tried the Frankenstein cookie at Gideon's Bakehouse? If so, is it good? I'm trying to decide if I want to try it or not. I found a copycat recipe online that I would like to try before our trip at the end of the month, but I'm afraid it won't be as good and will cause me not to want to try the real thing. (On a side note, the copycat recipe calls for a sprinkle of sea salt on top, but I don't see salt sprinkles on pictures of the real thing. If you have tried the real one, is there sea salt on top?)

I just want to thank you for posting about these Gideon cookies. My family is excited to try these (if we can get there in time!).

You are welcome. The coffee cake is my favorite. I seriously have dreams about it! I’m going to need to limit myself next week. I won’t have a way to bring them home but I really want to try so many. I’m torn between getting the Frankenstein and maybe even the Bride of Frankenstein (since these are exclusive to October) and getting TWO coffee cake cookies! I know I’ll be getting at least one coffee cake and at least one of the Halloween ones. I’m really trying to limit myself to four! I also want to try the pistachio toffee chocolate chip. TOO MANY CHOICES!

I love the coffee cake one too! So good!

The Frankenstein I think is one if not the most popular cookies. How can you go wrong with a cookie stuffed with oreos and covered in M&Ms. I like the Gideons cookies but I think the cakes are even better, If you haven't tried a slice try one they are amazing.

I agree with trying the cake. We really like the cookies but absolutely love the cake slices...
Hot take...the hot cookie hour is where it's at!
We're also hoping to try hot cookie hour when we go in December...

Interesting that you all like the cake slices. We tried the red velvet and it was somewhere between bad and terrible. Dry, flavorless. Worse than a slice you'd get from a grocery store bakery.

We had the chocolate explosion and the chocolate peanut butter one on our trips. Both were the best cake we've ever had (but you have to be a fan of frosting).

I think it looks amazing and I’d definitely try it out. I’m excited to see what the specials are when we’re there in December.

Does anyone know what the queues are like for Gideon’s these days? Still crazy? I wasn’t sure if they’re doing virtual queues still or you just queue as normal.

What is “hot cookie hour?”

I’m so happy you gave me some feedback about the Frankenstein. I seriously may have to buy it and The Bride. I tend to enjoy white chocolate more, but I can’t imagine getting the Bride without also getting Frankenstein.

I started a thread asking about the cake slices but quickly realized that they probably don’t have my kind of cake. I am a white cake with vanilla buttercream frosting kind of girl. I have no interest in any other kind. From what I can gather, that isn’t really an option there. So I’ll stick with cookies.

I may just have to get one coffee cake, Frankenstein, Bride, and pistachio toffee chocolate chip. Has anyone tried that last one? If it’s not great, I’ll get a second coffee cake!

Good to know. My BF hasn’t been so wants to try them - I like them but prefer Crumbl.

Can I ask…Was the hour wait a virtual or actual queue?

Virtual. Once we returned to the physical queue, it was maybe another 10 minutes.

Good to know. I enjoy crumble cookies but if there is not much of a difference, I won't bother wait in line

I agree. We tried a cake slice and a couple of cookies and they were all so terrible that my daughters and I had a bite each and threw them away. The cake was overly sweet and the frosting was grainy. The cookie flavor was nothing special plus they gave us cookies that were already a day old and getting hard. For six years I worked as a baker for a cafe that specialized in cookies. We made over a thousand a day so I have quite a bit of experience with baking, cookies especially. I know when something is not baked that day. This place is overhyped.

I wonder if they will freeze. We are going the week of Christmas and it appears the lines will be as long as any ride! :-)

They are different but Crumbl would be my go to.

I find Gideon’s a bit cakey in texture where as Crumbl is a better cookie texture.. I think it’s worth trying once if the queue is virtual or the line not so long.
