There is something like this at the Mall of America called Underwater World. You basically go through tunnels in the tank to see the sea life. I have always wondered what would happen if it leaked or like you said, gave way .

Dubai is suffering from a lot of problems... I had wanted to go until I actually started learning about the place. Now there is no way I'd ever put my tourist dollars to work in someplace like that. I also hope the animals and rehomed and not just left to die when everything goes south and Dubai is once more nothing but an expanse of desert.

Not too long ago there was a problem with a (glass?) elevator being stuck for 45 min. on the Dubai tower. They had to use a ladder to get out! It was supposed to be descending from the observation deck. I have read blurbs here and there about slave labor and shoddy construction at Dubai. I wouldn't go there for anything.

We have an annual pass to Underwater World. While I love it because the kids love it, I do get really nervous in the tunnel b/c if that glass were to crack/break....

I love the Dubai official's comment about "a technical fault in the operating device." Technical fault?!? The police said it was a "small problem, a simple crack."

I don't think so, looks like a gusher to me! That picture is scary.

BUT...no sympathy for Dubai! My DH's company did milliions of dollars of work for Dubai, and they defaulted on paying. Now there is a chance that my DH's company may have to close sometime this year. And Dubai has done that with lots of American/European countries that did work for them

They can send me anything they want, that stuff would look amazing in our saltwater tank. A friend of mine has been to Dubai, he says it's gorgeous but he was never far from the Tower (where the elevator got stuck) because the guard duty he was doing was centered there.
Oh and that is NOT a small crack....holy crap if that was MY tank I'd have bought a new one already!

You know it's funny you mentioned this.
I had never heard of this particular problem but when my parents were on a world criuse last year, they spent several days in Dubai. They came back with many, many stories of how badly the workers were treated. It was very sad.

Me too.

This is silly but when I was a little girl my Grandma had to convince me that the Living Seas really wasn't a building under water because of that movie. She finally had to show me the 'emergency exit' door and then I was convinced. Hey, that jerky elevator really fooled me!
