GF Sugar Loaf vs. Polynesian Concierge

I am new here and was searching for any clue on this, especially as those are the two resorts that offer this as an upgrade to concierge on the fall fantasy 7 nights for 4 special running. I actually took the GF, but thought long and hard. I know that I will not be disappointed no matter what as it was only $35 a person more than the standard room, altogether $1,476 for the whole package per person and thinking on it, the savings of $10 on breakfast, and if you go to say a 4:45 dinner most nights paying lunch rates and you are only about $15 difference from the standard room rate. That said, for about the same rate, you could have a lagoon view Polynesian. Now I know that wine is added at the Polynesian. But is that the primary difference? . . . i.e., at sugar loaf it is a lesser service than GF main lodge, how much lesser, nowhere could find if it was just no wine, or were deserts dropped to? . . .afternoon tea?

As a btw, I have never stayed concierge, but if this beginning is an indication it is worth every cent. I called because I booked through expedia and they do not take your address, and reading here that the concierge staff will send you a questionnaire if they have the address, made the call. The gentleman that I spoke to was wonderful, taking my info and telling me early days to think on planning, telling me of restaurants. I told him that I already had the California Grill the first night, a Saturday, at 7:45 to watch the fireworks at 9 but had no guarantee of a window and he said 'you do now'. Wow. . . . :bounce: . . . Anyways, info on the above as well as impressions of both would be greatly appreciated.

As a finally aside, has anyone else noticed that the vacation plans have increased in price by about $100 at least for this kind of vacation in the last week? . . .I booked the GF one and now it is quoted at $100 for both of us, $50 more each.

Thank you all for your help and sorry if this was long.

I actually got a few answers since posting this, and will post them in case this may help someone. The concierge desk at GF told me that the only difference between sugar loaf and the main building concierge food offerings was the lack of wine and cordials at night, though deserts were offered until 8 in the main building, 7 in sugar loaf. I was definitely worried about the possibility of no deserts, no afternoon tea, etc. Hope that this helps someone and still would very much enjoy any impressions of both. I have seen many good things about Polynesian's concierge service below, very little about sugar loaf's service. Thank you all again.

We've stayed at both and enjoy both. Much prefer the food selection at the Polynesian however.

Breakfast is almost the same at both resorts. At the Polynesian the early evening appetizers with a glass of wine are nice to have before going to dinner. At Sugar Loaf, there are fewer offerings. I also don't recall any desserts other than cookies and brownies that are out in the afternoon along with scones during teatime. The desserts (very yummy) and cordials are out until 10:00 at the Polynesian. Whenever we returned from dinner at Sugar Loaf everything was put away other than coffee and tea.

Have fun wherever you end up.

Thank you for taking the time to reply BCV, and the information was very much of use. I am now wondering if they have improved GF since your December trip, or if the concierge is fudging a wee bit. Either way I may stick GF, at this point they have bumped the cost of the trips up $100 and that buys a nice amount of wine and desert. Thanks again, and you go quigte a bit see, another trip can not be far off, have a wonderful time when you do go

Thank you. I should probably be packing rather than DISing!

I hope you have a wonderful trip as well. I'm sure you'll enjoy Sugar Loaf. Perhaps you can try the Polynesian on another trip.

If you visit the MK, be sure to take the launch back to the GF. It's a delightful way to travel!

I love the GF, but I'd have to think long and hard about doing the lodge concierge again. The way that the building is situated on the property, there is no view of the Magic Kingdom. From our balcony we could see most of the fireworks though. As for the lounge area, I thought it was very cramped. Having both the food service and the concierge staff all in the same area was not a well thought out arrangement. I thought that the seating was also very limited with only a few tables along the back door hallway. The breakfast offerings were very good and my kids always found something that they liked. Throughout the rest of the day, it was mostly salads, fruit, cheese, brownies and plenty of cold lemonade. The staff was always cheerful and helpful, but if I had to choose between the two, I would probably go with the Poly.

Feel free to call concierge at whatever resort you decide on, they will help you with any priority seatings that you need to make.

Have fun planning
