I am new to the board and have spent the last few nights reading so many of the messages. A wealth of information surely can be found here. Thanks to all of you. I have been debating over my room and resort choice because we will be spending more time in the room while my 3-year-old naps and opts for earlier bedtimes.

I have several questions regarding the GF LV Concierge and the Polynesian LV Concierge. I am currently booked for the GF LV Concierge (Sugar Loaf). My rate for 6 nights is $1859 (including tax) for Nov 10-16. Does this sound like a good rate?

I am questioning my choice now after reading some disgruntled reviews of Sugar Loaf. Here are a few questions that I have: Is it possible to get a MK fireworks view from Sugar Loaf? Do these rooms have balconies? How likely is it to get an upgrade to a main building concierge LV upon arrival?

Also, I am considering changing to the Poly LV Concierge. It is the same rate. Personally, I think that I would like the décor of the GF better, but I am considering the change because of the view. Are my chances better for a MK fireworks view from the Poly room? Which longhouse would be best for this and also have a balcony?

One more thing—How do the rooms of the GF and Poly compare in regards to cleanliness? I have to admit—I am a clean freak. I often have a problem staying in hotels because of this.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi and welcome!

Unfortunately, there are no lagoon view rooms in the Sugar Loaf building. You will have a view of the marina or the quiet pool. If you want LV concierge at the GF, you need to reserve the main building which is called Royal Palm Club, and even then there are a limited number of rooms with views of the MK fireworks. All rooms have balconies at the GF unless you're on the first floor. I don't know how likely it is that you will be upgraded (at no charge) to a main building room.

The Polynesian lagoon view concierge rooms are in the Hawaii building and MOST offer excellent views of the MK and fireworks. You definitely will have a much better chance of a great view at the Polynesian. Check out this website for specifics.

As far as cleanliness goes, I think Disney resorts are the cleanest hotels I've stayed in. That being said, the decor of the GF is entirely different than that at the Polynesian. The GF is light and bright and used a lot of pastel colors. The Polynesian uses bamboo and natural earth tones in its decor. The website above has many pictures of the rooms.

If you get into your room and you think it's not up to par, you can always call housekeeping and they will come in an touch it up for you. We did this when we were at the Polynesian in June 2001 and at the GF in December 2001.

I hope this helps a little! Have a great trip!!!!!!!

I've stayed in Sugar Loaf and had a beautiful view of the MK fireworks and castle. We were on the 3rd floor and had a balcony. If memory serves me correctly, all the rooms had one. Ground floor rooms on the pool side also had a little fenced in patio area (I think also true for the marina side). You just need to request a marina view and a room on the right hand side of the building to see the fireworks. When we were there last, a big tree kind of obscured the view from anyone that was on the left hand side. I'm really not that familiar with the Polynesian, but I know that the GF has a new zero entry pool located by the beach. This would be perfect for a 3 year old. The new decor is very pretty also, very bright and airy.

I'm headed to the GF on Saturday and am planning on doing a trip report when I get back.

Not to put a "damper" on your trip, but there are VERY few rooms in Sugar Loaf like Tammi had. Due to the position of the buildings, it does limit the view (as Sugar Loaf is not lagoon front, you won't have a direct view).

First floor rooms have the standard balcony just like all the other rooms (with the exception of two hospitality suites).

We've stayed in Sugar Loaf concierge as well as Poly GV concierge. Many years ago we also stayed in what's now Hawaii with a lagoon view. We LOVE both. Scanne described the difference in decor very well. We also have had immaculate rooms.
The Poly concierge does have a more relaxed feel to it if only because of the design and decor of the resort. The lounge offerings at the Poly are probably better suited to most children's taste in the evening, but breakfast is pretty much the same. At the Poly wine and cordials are also served and water and pop is available by can or bottle all day long. At Sugar Loaf, they offer ice tea, lemonade and water by the glass. Oh, and Cali we were on the third floor marina view of Sugar Loaf and had a GREAT sideways view of the fireworks. It totally surprised us as you can't see the castle at all as you noted. We aslo loved hearing the howls from BTM. At any rate, we love both....have fun whichever you pick.

BCV, due to the location that they put the fireworks off from, you can see them from many of the rooms. Just the castle thing is a little different, there are very few rooms that you can see it from. :) Wish they would have put lodge concierge in Conch Key! ;)

Cali, can the gardenview rooms in Conch Key see the fireworks?

Do you mean the ones at the very north end? Are those GV?!!

Thank you to everyone for the replies. I have decided to go with the Polynesian, in hopes of obtaining the better view. Hopefully, it will pay off. Thanks again

Thanks, Cali. I just remembered something that a server at GFC told us...but I'll post it on your GF FAQ. Can you share where that special section of Conch Key is, by the way?

7131 and 7328 are both straight on castle view rooms in Conch Cay. 7131 is first floor, very end of the hallway, closest room to boat launch. Non-smoking, 2 queens, Alice theme.

7328 is third floor, non-smoking, HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE! No bathtub, just a roll in shower, and the bath is not split. It's pretty much in the middle of the third floor.

There's nothing like a castle view room. I didn't care for the GF concierge, and wouldn't stay in a GF concierge room ever again. But I do really like those Conch Cay lagoon view rooms :)

Thanks, Cali. Now if I can figure out how to retrieve it!

Got it, Cali.! Thanks so much. I enjoy your posts and love your FAQ!
