Cast:
My parents, Bride, and Daughters age 9 (Eden), 7(Sydney), and me.
Occasion:
To celebrate Edens 6 months of healing after breaking her femur falling out of a tree.
Setting:
Its the last day of school and. Grandma and Grandpa are there to celebrate. We are a family who pulled together through months of hospitalized traction, body casts, walkers, and home schooling from an injury that occurred the day before our last planned Disney vacation. Eden and I planned this make up trip within days of her moving into her new home away from home in our local pediatric ward.
Logistics:
With Southwest Airlines we were able to credit our canceled November tickets for this trip. Most of our November DVC points were restored to us per a one time only exception . We flew out of Indy without complications although our return flight was delayed by a couple of hours. We rented 2 mid-size cars from Alamo for around $107 each for the week. We were pleased to get new Chevy HHRs and except for the initial long line at the counter our service was good..
Off site lodging:
We spent our first and last nights at Residence Inn Sea World.. The pool, room, and breakfast was quite nice although I did expect the 1 bedroom suite to be larger than the studio that I had stayed in last year but I bet they were about the same size.
On with our Vacation:
On our way to the Residence Inn, we had fun shopping and bopping at Disney surplus as well as the Disney/ Belz outlet store. After a drink and a swim we attempted to do Downtown Disney the Saturday of Memorial Weekend but were turned back because of lack of parking spaces. We then tried to get Pizza at Giordonos but they were at capacity with an hour wait even for take out. We remembered why we enjoy Orlando off seasons when possible. The kids were pooped but we managed to enjoy pool side pizza back at the hotel before hitting the hay.
The next morning we enjoyed the breakfast buffet and headed southeast. At Vero our 2 bedroom room was initially not ready so we opted for lunch overlooking the Atlantic from the Green Cabin Room deck. ( I highly recommend the 4 cheese flatbread with garlic tomatoes, and spinach.) With our room still not ready, we opt to for swimsuits and end up rummaging through our luggage in the parking garage. Enter Georgette, cast member extra ordinaire. Though hundreds of feet away, Georgette is concerned about this family seemingly making their home in the parking garage. I think I can help you she exclaims. After a few walkie talkie moments she shares with us that our room is almost done but the previous guests were kind enough to leave it need of some serious steam cleaning of the carpet. She then made way for us to unload and change in our room as long as we were ok with the fans blowing the floors dry. OK?..were ecstatic that she was allowing us to get in our room early despite feeling some shame regarding the previous DVC occupants. Georgette continued to look after us throughout our stay including teaching the girls to make towel animals. We headed straight for the beach armed with our cooler, sunshade, inflatable boogie boards and chairs. Our room (1515/1514) was a lockoff on the first floor with a large porch and a view of the ocean. Our typical day revolved around morning walks on the beach (or sleeping in), early afternoons at the pool, late afternoons on the beach, and evenings back at the villa. We had one morning that resembled a tropical rain forest but by afternoon the sun was shining and the waves were awesome. I was the chef for the week so we enjoyed chicken salad, shrimp cocktail, seafood quesadilas, guacamole, seafood linguine, crab leg dinners and key lime pie.. Mom and Dad treated us to a nice evening of yet more seafood at Captian Hirams one evening . (Now that were back in Indiana, Im think Im about ready for a thick steak). The girls had fun at the campfire one night and still sing out I cant... my back aches, the suns to bright, my bootie shakes from left to right...Guess you had to be there. They also they had a blast making friends with Hanna from Kansas. The trio boogie boarded, swam, and built sand castles together before having to share goodbye hugs.
We had a great boogie boarding, shell finding, water sliding, sun rising, over eating, over sleeping time hanging out with each other. We are grateful to God in whos creation we reveled and in whose Grace we healed .
