getting to universal studios

I know this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it in searching through 15 pages of threads. So, anyways, what's the best/cheapest way to get to US/IOA from WDW? We're thinking of taking our DD's to see Blue Man Group in September (they've already seen La Nouba ), and are trying to figure out the best way to get over there.

You could get a taxi from the resort or from Downtown Disney which is a little cheaper.

You could always just rent a cab. I believe it's about $20-30 one way. For me, it's easier to have the front desk get a cab for me than it is to deal with renting a car, especially with ME being free. The time spent at the rental counter takes away from time in the Magic!

I like using a towncar service- the most convenient option hands down.

The company I use charges $75 round trip.

Mears Transportation does a shuttle between WDW and Universal $16.00 RT.

We are gonna be staying OFFSITE but through my research adn planning I have found out that to save money adn driving stress we are gonna take the lynx bus sytem EVERYWHERE! Just like in Europe you can get a weeks pass for like 16 bucks or so adn use the busses ALL WEEK! We have found that the universal adn Sea World Routes DO stop at the TTC!!! You could easily get to the TTC form your resort then get onto a bus! THe buses are the cheapest method adn despite popular beleaf they start running VERY early so you can get to the parks WAY before opening!

Mears has a taxi fare estimator and you also can call them for shuttle costs. I called for SW to Universal and it would be $18pp round trip, and WDW is farther. The taxi would be $14.80 from SW to universal one way.

I have taken the Lynx bus to SW, and yes, it goes there directly. It does drop you at the front of the parking lot and you have to cross that to get to the main gate. But, direct to Universal?? Not that I know of. If I remember correctly, you have to make a transfer, or two, if you are planning on using the Lynx bus. And it can be very time consuming...people have told me it can take upwards of 2 hrs...but since I haven't done it myself, I can't say with any confidence.

Depends on the size of your group as to what is going to be least expensive. The Mears shuttle runs about $16 pp, r/t. A private towncar service will be about $70 or so, plus tip. A rental car can vary...but you have to add in gas and parking. If you have three or more, it may make sense to hire a towncar service.

True, you can get most everywhere in Orlando by public bus but it can take valuable vacation time. You have to get from your resort to TTC first, but there are no direct Disney buses, so you have to go to MK first then back to TTC on the monorail. Whilst there are direct buses to Sea World, Kissimee, Downtown Orlando, the airport and a shopping mall, you have to change routes for Universal. Some routes also stop at DTD but I have never used that route.

Before you use Lynx, you need to consider how much of your valuable vacation time you want to spend riding on, or waiting for, public transport.
