Getting to know us - 12/1

So far the cat (Streaks) leaves the tree and ornaments alone.. he prefers to sleep under the tree on the skirt.... however, we have an on going battle on the rest of the house and decorations.. He attacked my village last year...so I put it up differently this year... Last year he also stepped on my Snowman display... ERRR! I finally gave him the ultimatium of knocking it off or sleeping in the snow!!! Took 2 nights outside and he stopped... Now, we are battling w/ the Santa display.... I've given him the warning..the ultimatium will ensue by week's end!!

I need to find the photos of the attack cat on the village!!

Nancy, that is a funny story about the tree eating Princess J's brother.:lmao:

We always do a real tree. The weekend after Thanksgiving we go to a local person who sells trees on the side. The cost is $25, we go into his back fields and find a tree. This year, guess who gets to do the cutting? Yup, me.:lmao: Oh, I am sure there will be a funny tree story in our house this year.:lmao: :lmao:

Real. It wouldnt be tradition if we didnt muck out in the rain to find a tree. The girls love it. Dh wont be here this year. :sad1: So its up to us girls to get it all done. We tried to go this weekend but the little ones were sick. So it would have been no fun.

I am a real tree fan. My mother had a real tree. My father had 2. One real and one artificial. The real one was the kids tree. We could decorate it however we liked. My grandmother always had an artificial one. As she got older the trees seemed to get smaller.

I just love the smell of a real tree. Besides, when else during the year do you get to say "A lot of sap in here" (movie reference, can you guess which one?):rotfl2:

Last year, I just gave up on putting them back so by Christmas the lower quarter of the tree was completely bare. Christmas is definitely more challenging with a feline family member!

sounds like me when the kids were little. All the unbreakables or the ok to be destroyed ornaments went on the bottom. Between the kids and the dogs tail, which felt like being hit with a baseball bat, the bottom of the tree was bare by Xmas day.

We have always had an artificial.. (well, once we had a real thrill.. 1996.. ..I remember it well, because the tree swallowed up my DS...who was just scooting at the time..and all of 6 months old.... he tugged just right on the lower branch and DD screamed bloody murder that the tree was eating her brother!!!).... We had to anchor that big ol' tree into the ceiling!!!

cute story!!!

...and I stuff every ornament on it...some that are as old as me...

dang those must be really old ornaments huh? :duck:

Depends. Some years we get the yearning for a real tree, so we get one. Others we use the artificial one.

dh and i were talking last night and i asked if we could do the fake one this year and he said YES!!!!!
so where do you suggest i go find one??? i've always had a real one and would have no idea where to get a good fake one!

We got ours at Target years ago and it's held up very well and the lights work fine (well except for the ocassional bulb burnout). It's really simple to put up too.

Thanks Stephanie! I think that's where we will go look tonight!

dang those must be really old ornaments huh? :duck:

I'll have to take some photos of the old ones...and I need to see if the kids remember putting up the flinstones we had... There were 4 of us in our family til I was 16 years old... So we each had a character to put up! Once DSis came we never put them out again because we couldn't find the original Pebbles! LOL

Streaks seems to enjoy my village... he attacked my village daily if not twice a day...
Here is his attack on Day 1 last year... In the second photo he seems a little miffed at me for asking him to get down and knock it off!

Here is his mild side this year..
I have a cool old fashion hope chest that was Dh's grandparents....so this year, I'm going to fill it with Christmas presents so it'll be a "box full of goodies"...
Of course as soon as I put the red cloth in it... here comes the pain! LOL

:lmao: PN96!!!! Gotta love those kitties for helping out! My cat used to do the same thing to my village. I haven't had it up in a couple of years because I don't have anyplace to put it, but when it was up, we used to laugh at the Giant Cat attacking! DS used to also attack my village. When I'd be gone, he'd put green army men in the village and see how long it took me to notice!:rotfl:
