Going to Disney in December and want to do dinner at BOMA. What is the easiest way to get to BOMA? If we are at Animal Kingdom, do we just hop on AKL bus? If so, how do I get back to POR after dinner?

Get on a bus to AKL and get off at Jambo House. To get back to POR, you will have to go to another park or DTD to get a bus or take a cab.

To get back to POR after dinner at Boma; take bus to Downtown Disney and then take ferry back to POR. We stay at POR and have breakfast buffet at Boma, which is wonderful.

This! Our Favorite part of the Port Orleans experience! (unless there is a late emh, then take the AKL bus to that park.)

When you leave AK to head to AKL to eat at Boma, don't get off at the first stop. The bus stops at Kidani Village first. Then it makes another stop (a couple of minutes away) to Jambo House, the main lodge where Boma is.

Personally I'd rather swallow glass than take a bus to DTD. I'd recommend getting a bus to either Epcot or DHS if either is still open, and transferring there.

While I'd typically agree with you, from AKL it's not too bad as the bus isn't shared with any other resort (so straight to DTD) and on the DTD end, they could hop a boat to POR. Even with that thought, I would agree it would probably be quicker to transfer at Epcot or DHS.

When leaving AKL, hop on the first bus that comes, whatever it may be.

If it is to a park, take a bus to POR
If it is to DTD, take boat to POR

I agress - first come, first GO.

Also, if you are just completely exhausted by the end of all long day of AK and AKL grab a taxi. We have budgeted a few taxi rides just for these type of evenings.

On our last day we are planning an early breakfast (7:30) at BOMA's before our flight, which is at 12:45. I think it's best to take a cab from POR to and from BOMA's. Do the hotels give you telephone numbers of local cabs they recommend? Don't want to rely on buses when we have to catch a plane.

If there is no cab waiting, they will call one for you.

Taking an AKL bus to Boma? Make sure you get off the bus at Jambo House, not Kidani Village. I am always seeing folks making this mistake. My parents made it even though I told them to make sure it was Jambo House.

I usually say using DTD as a transportation hub should be done only as a last resort. I recommend using it only if 1) every other possible transfer point is closed, or 2) there is some reason you want to go to DTD. If you want to take the boat to POR then you will need to go there. But it is a long journey, especially from as far out as AKL.

For transfers at a park, Blizzard Beach will work in a pinch when it is open, but I usually recommend DHS. Epcot works but its bus stops can be a long way apart, and MK is out of the way unless you are going someplace near it.

Slightly different question on the same theme:

Do you recommend a dinner at AKL after a day at AK? We will be there in April when the park should close by 5:00 or 6:00. Thinking of doing a dinner after a day at AK at one of the two: Boma or Jiko. Background: I am a vegan and DW, DD and 2nd DD are all milk and wheat allergic (but do eat meat). Which restaurant is better and/or should we avoid them completely?

Have at it!!!

:)

Thanks!

Absolutely go to Jiko! Going on your Animal Kingdom day is a great option, I really enjoy both Boma and Jiko but I think Jiko would be a better option for your dining needs... the chef will come out and try and accommodate each person... Boma is great but with it being a buffet I think it would be a little bit more difficult to accommodate everyones needs...

Just make sure when you book your reservation that you tell them about your needs :thumbsup2

I always like dinner at Boma after a day at AK.... it's never open late, and it's a quick bus ride over....(BTW at Boma they're great with allergy help) We always grabbed the bus back to DTD then just went to our hotel bus stop there.....

we use a taxi at least once every trip to disney. usually when we have a late dinner at another resort or are just too tired to do the bus and switch. that happens more since i have gotten older.

it is worth it.:thumbsup2

If we are staying at Beach Club and don't want to takes buses, can we just drive our car to Animal Kingdom Park (what is the parking fee?) and then just drive to AKL for dinner? Can we park there if we aren't staying there? We have never driven to Disney before as we used to live in NY and always flew. Now we live in GA and it's a quick trip. Thanks!

Parking is free for you at AK because you will be given a parking permit by Beach Club. You can freely park throughout the resort.

You can park at AKL for free too! Just tell the CM at the gate that you have an ADR.

I'm among those who recommend tranferring at a theme park instead of DTD.

Your best bet may be Epcot because the DHS bus will not take you after DHS closes, which in December is often 7 pm (even though busses run for at least an hour after park closing and, along those lines, you will see busses coming from DHS after 7 pm, they will not pick you up and take you back to DHS after the park closes - had this exact experience last December and ended up taking a cab).

Thanks itinkso. So, if we drive to Magic kingdom and we have ADR, we can park free? We also have ADR's at Chef Mickeys and Grand Floridian so no problem driving to those? But if we want to take a shuttle (so we can have some drinks) we can do that too right?

Yup, free parking at the resorts for your ADRs and free parking for all Theme parks. And, you can use the Disney Shuttles/buses whenever you choose. Most people find it more convenient to take the bus to and from Magic Kingdom rather than going by car as the bus drops you closer to the turnstiles.
