Getting this T-Rex reservation was "too easy"

So I have a reservation (booked online at the Disney site) for T-Rex on the Tuesday of our trip. I was looking at switching things around and decided we'd be better off at T-Rex on Wed. instead---but wasn't having any luck getting a spot on the Disney site.

I've heard that calling the restaurant directly will help...so I did. It was too easy---she just asked my name, number in our party, and what time we wanted and said it as all set. She said my last name is the confirmation.

Is this a "legit" ADR now? Or is it really no different than if we just showed up to the restaurant that day with no ADR? Anyone else have this experience, and did you end up waiting a long time to be seated?

The time of the reservation is at 2 pm, if that makes a difference for how busy it might be.

I'd like to go ahead and cancel my Tuesday ADR-but I'm a little reluctant to because it just seems more "legit"---and right now I'm wary of what I have for Wednesday.

Thanks! :)

That's the same information that your local hometown restaurant would take to book a reservation. They do take phone reservations, which most restaurants in Disney don't, but it is legit.

And calling has a few advantages.....usually more times to choose from (as in tell them what time YOU want...not what time the computer is trying to fill, lol).....and there is not the requirement of leaving a credit card, which means, if you miss your ADR you are not charged $10 per person. I am NOT saying that you shouldn't call to cancel if you need to, just saying it's like the old way and if you decide that morning to cancel, no penalty.

One disadvantage....it won't show up on your MDE, so you need to calendar it somewhere so you don't forget.

This is a legitimate reservation. You can find me constantly sharing with people to make their reservations directly to all of the non-disney owned restaurants.

Sorry, I meant early as in how many days prior may I call to schedule. As with ADR I can schedule 180 days. Sorry for the confusion.

this is the only way I schedule Rain Forest or T-Rex ressies. this way you can get time you want not what is given to Disney Dining. never had a problem

You are Golden :).

And CONGRATS! You have discovered that close to half of the good WDW Restaurants may just be CALLED, and BOOKED. Just like in the real world :).

You asked if this was "legit" - consider: in your home town, or on a visit to San Francisco..... what would you have done? Pretty much EXACTLY what you did.
We love WDW - their reservation system is broken on a GOOD day. Direct contact with a great restaurant was a very good move :).

Yes, you can make a phone reservation at TRex 180 days out. You might be able to make it even earlier but I have never tried.

Made ours at 180+10 out, after having only a 9:30 p.m. available via Disney Dining. Called T-Rex, scheduled a 6:45 p.m. and canceled my ADR. I too held my breath for a second as I hit that cancel button, but I think we're good:)
