Getting stuck on POTC is not fun!

I love getting stuck! Luckily none have been in circumstances where me or my family we uncomfortable! My DD then 5, and I, got stuck at the top of Gooofy's in DCA. The ride just glided and stopped in a perfect place for each car to get out. But, we were at the top, so were told to stay seated and we would be helped soon. After 30 or so minutes, after CMs evacuated all the cars, we were second to last at the top. I'm 5'9", and it was a good drop from the car to the platform, 2 CMs insisted on helping all 4 of us out, and they said they had to help out my DD for safety. We walked down and around a ton of stairs. We did get a FP to be used on any DCA ride so we chose TSMM for walk-on appeal. We got stuck on monsters in ride near the beginning of the ride another trip. They simply stopped all animatronics, turned on all the lights and walked us thru the entire ride. Neat, but takes away the magic a bit for the little kids! We got nothing other than a come back later for that breakdown. They did ask us to put down all cameras.

Hey - we got stuck on Goofy's, too - on the uphill ascent, near the top. We were there about 40 minutes and my girls got really scared. The had to get their fire dept to come and get us out. They picked up the girls, but just took my hand (they were tethered to the railing). It was closing time, and they gave us two FPs good they next day. We also used them for TSMM.

We've been stuck on Alice, but not for long and were simply walked-off. We've also been stuck on Space Mountain, but that got going again eventually. We got to finish the ride with the lights on, and then stay on again and ride the ride in it's entirety in the dark.

Yikes! My two fears are: 1. I get stuck on a ride, they turn all the lights on, and it destroys the magic. I am not one of those people who wants to see how anything works. It works by MAGIC. 2. I will get stuck on Soarin'. That actually keeps me from going on it sometimes. I have such a fear of heights, it is all I can do to get on it in the first place. Once I do, I focus on the screen and know it will be over quickly. If I got stuck, and the lights came on...yeesh. I can't even think about it.

The only one that absolutely scares me to death just thinking about needing evacuate would be Mickey's Fun Wheel...at the top. My daughter and I were stuck at the top once back when it was The Sun Wheel for about 10-15 minutes while they kept announcing "sun spots" over the PA system. I had visions of having to be rescued from our perch at the top. Scary!

Yeah...this too! I have never been on this ride.

It didn't end up happening that way but I sure was wondering how we could be rescued from up there. We looked and looked and didn't see anything near us that appeared remotely climb-downable (if that's even a word ). Helicopter hovering by the basket maybe? That would have been cool! :thumbsup2 But I'm sure the young couple in our car would have come completely unglued if it had gotten any more dramatic than it already was.

PSA: Parents, if your kids are old enough to ride solo, brief them on the possibility of mechanical breakdowns!

For all the times we've been to DLR, I'm surprised we haven't been stuck on rides more often! Most of the time it's been temporary stops that last a minute, especially on HM, but we did experience longer shut-downs on Indy and POTC. On Indy, we just left the Cavern of Bubbling Death and were in a tunnel when we stopped and the lights came on. I think we waited about 15 minutes before the transports started up again. Everyone in the transport cheered!

We have a great memory of the POTC shutdown. It kept stopping right as we were near Carlos trying not to be chicken. The boat would sit for 10 minutes, then it'd move a little bit, then stop for even longer. We ended up sitting next to most of the scenes and spent over an hour in one small section of the ride. It finally did start up again and we finished the ride as normal, and as we departed, a CM gave all the passengers open FP vouchers for (4) people for any ride in the parks (long before RSR was built).

We decided to use the special FP on Splash, since FP's were no longer available and the wait time was over 100 minutes. As we walked to the FP entrance, we noticed a couple observe the stand-by line and turn away, so we invited them to be the third and fourth guests on the voucher. It turns out the couple were spending one day in Disneyland and it was their honeymoon! After the ride ended, we bought them an 8 x 10 souvenir photo as a wedding gift. We have one too! hmmm...come to think of it, I think they have a 10 year anniversary coming up! (I can't believe how time flies!)

My family and I got stuck on POTC last Wednesday for 50 minutes! I used to get a kick out of being stuck on rides/walked off rides but this time it was a little different. All the other rides I've been stuck on have been pretty easy to get off but this was definitely not. Also, my 3 year old son was with us and he's really only been potty trained for a few months. I was soooo nervous he was going to announce he had to use the potty but luckily he didn't! But boy talk about anxiety! Our boat was stuck right by the Pirate sitting in the mud with the pig. I was sooo thankful we weren't in the tunnel. That would have been a nightmare with DS. I'm honestly surprised at how long it took them to get us off the ride but at the same time I was impressed with how most of the CM's handled the situation. And I'll spend weeks trying to figure out how we ended up where we did when they got us off the ride! POTC was my favorite ride up until last week. It will probably be awhile before I'll get on it again. You can only hear that song so many times before you start to hate it :rotfl2:

We also got stuck on Pirates for over an hour..They finally turned off the song and there was a big cheer. Then the lights came on..then it took forever to co-ordinate with other CMs..I figured out they had to call a bunch in from other areas to have the proper escorts and stuff. We had to climb over the boats and to the sides then were escorted up some stairs and then backstage and ended up on some roof area where they had security cars with flashing lights and folks waving us on with lights. We missed our Fantasmic Dessert seating and along the way told a plaid who hurried us out, but it was well into the show so he arranged for us to see the later viewing and gave us some special fastpasses. It was pretty interesting, but was dampened by watching the clock tick and know I was losing $400 in dessert tickets. Grateful they made it right, and now we know to NOT RIDE anything a couple hours before an event. We had just checked in for the dessert and had tons of time, we thought, and no line at Pirates, so why not, right? :)

Wow! That would've made the wait unbearable! I'm a worrywart, so it would've been like torture for me. I'm glad Disney made it right, though. I'll need to remember that they will do that and not get too tense if things like that happen to us!

The two places I wouldn't want to be stuck would be the obvious, which is upside down on Screamin and something that seems innocuous, which is in that packed elevator on HM.

Can one seriously get stuck upside down on Screamin?

you gave me the feels

I have seen pictures on the news of other roller coasters being stuck on the loop; that would probably scare me to death. :worried:

I know Im weird but the thought of being stuck at the top of MFW scares me even more!

In Vegas there is a casino called the stratosphere that has all these crazy rides at the top of its tower. One time people got stuck for like 3 hours face down over the Las Vegas strip. I almost passed out watching the news coverage!

You shouldn't. In theory you should roll back and forth till you are set. There are health issues with being upside down for that long, so I'm assuming you just go as far as momentum lets you and then you stop.

We were in the line that day and were about 5 groups away from loading. We had been waiting for about 40 minutes before it broke down so we decided to wait a little longer to see if they could fix it quickly. We waited about another 20 minutes before finally giving up and we saw lots of people climbing out of boats evacuating themselves (people who were almost but not quite at the unloading zone). It was quite dangerous, one man almost dropped his little baby in the water as he was trying to grab her from his wife who was still in the boat. No one in the line got any sort of fast pass or anything, which stunk because by the time we had left we had waited for 60 minutes and the announcements they were making were still saying we could wait if we wanted as it should be up and running "soon".

You poor things! This happened to us last time we went to DL. It was literally our first ride on our first day and the boat 2 in front of us got stuck. They emptied the boats in front of us but then left us! We sat there for 45 minutes, listening to that song over and over again, waiting for the rescue. Finally we just all walked out ourselves. We weren't far from an emergency exit. I have no idea why they didn't come back for us. It was a very frustrating start to our first day there that's for sure.

We got stuck on the Matterhorn a couple of weeks ago. I had a horrible fear of getting stuck rides, so I was trying really hard not to freak out. We were stuck maybe 15 minutes before they evacuated us. A manager-typè person came and he was really, really nice. The evacuation team came maybe five minutes after that and helped us out.

We were led to a door in the side of the mountain and walked downstairs on the inside of the mountain. It was pretty cool and they gave us fast passes that we could use later, anywhere except Radiator Spring Racers and World of Color.

I prayed for peace and was able to "hold it together." I actually was less nervous riding other rides after having gotten stuck and evacuated off at the Matterhorn. I guess I saw that it wasn't so bad after all.

The closest I ever got to being stuck on a ride was in WDW. We were on the Tower of Terror - they are set up different than in Disneyland. Your "elevator" rolls through the a floor at the hotel, then you get settled into the dropping part. Just before your elevator enters the dropping part, ours stopped. The lights came up and I got really nervous. I'm sure we weren't stopped like that for more than 5 minutes, but it seemed longer. I really didn't want to be there then! I just wanted off! Of course, that wasn't an option. The ride continued without a hitch, but I didn't enjoy it :(

I'm prone to panic attacks, so I would not do well in one of these situations described.

Something very similar happened to me on one of my Tower of Terror rides at WDW. It was weird for sure! I was also on FJ at IOA. I was a single rider so I rode that thing like 7 times in an hour. The last 2 rides, it stopped at least twice a ride. The last time I got stuck almost upside down underneath the spider. I decided after that I had had enough Harry Potter and left. :rotfl2: We handed off our fastpasses for BTM and literally walked 10 steps when they said the ride was closing (not sure what was wrong but there were people stuck who needed to be helped off). Didn't get our fasspasses back. Never been evacuated myself though!
