Getting Sick at Disney

When my DD had an ear infection at Disney, we went to a clinic that was on a list the hotel gave me. They were going to charge me over $200 and my insurance wouldn't cover it, so I drove back to the Walgreens I passed on the way and $60 later we were out the door. Just Google Walgreens Take Care Clinic to find the closest one to where you are staying. They can take care of the standard illnesses such as strep, ear infection, flu test, etc.

Thanks Everyone! So far my daughter and I are still healthy, no symptoms and we leave tomorrow. My husband and older daughter are feeling better. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying for a healthy trip.

Two years ago I tripped going back to our room on our last night and sprained my ankle really badly. By the time I limped to the room, it was swelling up and turning black and blue! We called the hotel desk and naively assumed they would send in "Disney doctors" like Patch Adams with mouse ears and all would be well. No such luck. The CM told us about having a dr. Come to the room (super expensive) or we could take a cab to an urgent care clinic, but they didn't recommend it at night ( they said it was in a not so great neighborhood....). We opted to ice it, wrap it and get checked out when we got home.

Needless to say, not exactly what we were expecting from Disney, but in hindsight, it was our unreasonable expectations, not Disney's fault.!!!

I get sick EVERY vacation our family has taken. 1st big family vacation..i got food poisoning and felt like a zombie for 4 days. The 1st big family trip to Disney...1 hour after we got there i was walking down Main Street crying because my throat hurt so bad-strep. Fun times..wound up at the ER in Celebration and they were nice enough...just a really long wait. Last trip to Disney...super fun virus that both my son and I got.

I have this curse lol. I LOVE to eat at Disney and both times I have been too sick to eat over half of my meals. I am taking bets on what the disease will be this year. We are going for new years with deluxe dining...I feel like I am tempting fate.

I just got back from AKL and found the supplies in the resort's store to be very limited and pricey (think 14.00 dollars for something I would have paid $8.00 for at home) in terms of over the counter drugs. (I had a terrible cough and congestion) Though I do not know the answer to your question, I would bring with you anything you think you need to give you relief.

Luckily for me, the people we were traveling with had supplies. Though I never went to the doctor and have seem to recover, two people in my party have been diagnosed with pneumonia upon returning home.

Strep is highly contagious. This must be some new perspective in treating strep ( or Dr's scared of insurance companies). Back in the day, the whole family was given medicine to treat strep if one family member had it. You can be asymptomatic ( be the carrier) and keep infecting the family. I say switch doctor's.
