Getting rid of satellite TV

So we are considering getting rid of our Directv. What information can anyone give me on alternatives. We have Netflix, but what about Hulu Plus? How quickly are episodes added and are a lot of shows on there?

What can we do to still see sports? We watch a lot of sports and don't want to lose that. Any insight would be appreciated.

My DS has HULU and the episodes are added next day. As for sports, you are SOL. That's the reason ours is still on. That and the Walking Dead. Tomorrow is the last episode of TWD and DTV is getting suspended til football season starts. We will give DS money for access to Netflix & HULU and with the Roku, we'll make do. Or try to anyway!

If you are a big sports fan, you'll need either satellite tv or cable.

It's really almost impossible to watch sports without cable or satellite. It's the one reason we keep it. For example baseball. Archaic black out rules mean that you can't watch your home town team on the app. So if the game isn't on a channel you get with an antenna, you're out of luck (and even if you pay for it). NBC Sports Extra App requires you to be a cable, satellite or teleco subscriber.
There are ways to stream sporting events but the quality is not good and are not reliable as they are prone to being shut down.
If you live close enough to pick up local stations with an antenna you can at least get football, but many basketball, hockey and baseball games are broadcast now on cable stations.
We watch alot of sports including more obscure ones like rugby. Probably 80% of our watching. Almost wish we could just get the sports packages!

I would love to let my cable go but I have two huge sports fans so it we'll never happen. Once one kid moves out I can cut my package down.
