getting rid of Delta skymiles...

I posted this on transportation also, and also on flyertalk.com, but I am looking for as many responses as I can.....so here is the deal:
My mom is looking to get rid of her Delta skymiles, and was wondering about points.com, or any other good ways to get rid of them and get something for it. Any help is appreciated!!

I had skymiles too. They were expiring soon and I knew we wouldnt be flying in time so I used some points for some free stuff like magazines and such and donated the rest to Make a Wish Foundation.

SkyMiles expires? I have 25,600 rightn ow and waiting for 30,000 to go to Hawaii.......I didnt know they expired

The "old" Delta Sky Miles are ending and rolling into the new program. Call and see when your miles expire. If you use the Delta Sky Miles Card, those don't expire. You can also purchase miles. The Platinum Delta Sky Miles card gives you ten thousand miles just for signing up. If you reach a certain level of spending, you get an additional 20 K on your "anniversary". I had miles on United that were going to expire due to lack of activity so I donated 1000 miles. It kept the other miles active. I also used small lots of United Miles for interisland flights on Aloha Airlines. United still only requires 5 K for two segments or the equal of a round trip.
