getting rid of a virus?

i just checked the Symantec Antivirus and i noticed that there was 4 viruses in there. How do i get rid of them? i want to get rid of them before they do something to my computer. I have no idea what website i got them from, and my dad will be really upset if he sees a virus. Does anyone know how to delete them?

when i go into the threat history, can i just click on the red X (delete)?

Will it delete it out of the computer, or what will it do?

or should i right click on it and say delete permently

Can you post the exact infections that Symantec is reporting and also which version of Symantec you have?

Either of the methods that you mentioned will permanently remove the files from the Symantec quarantine.

Most virus' are spread through e-mail attachments or unpatched vunerabilities in Windows, or by downloading infected files from the internet. It is very rare that you would pick up a virus just by visiting a website. There are some that Symantec (and every other anti-virus program) have a hard time permanently removing so it is important to know exactly what the infection was to make sure that it is completely gone. Are you getting any popup ads or having any other problems with the computer?

Yes you will need to know exactly what virus it is that is on your PC. There are a lot of virii that cannot be removed simply by deleting them. If the delete does not work, you can check Symantec's website and do a search on the virus. They usually have specific removal instructions. I will warn you though. Some of these removal procedures are quite tedious.
