getting requested site

I am wondering for those of you that have requested a site and had a notation made on your reservation, how often Disney comes through at granting your request?

I called today, several months in advance, about a concern. I did not request a specific site, however, I did have a note put on my reservation about a specific concern for a site.

I am frustrated that Disney cannot grant me a site until arrival...because if the request cannot be met, I don't think I want to go. By the time I know if the request can be made it would be both unfair to Disney and my family (because we would literally be there) to cancel. And, per cancellation policy, I could not get a refund.

I would even be willing to deny a possibility of a refund if Disney could say, yes, we can grant the request.

so, this long winded post is asking how often people get their requests. Thanks!

Sorry, but Disney never guarantees a particular site, or even loop. We can usually get our requested loop by checking in early in the day, also by arriving early in the week. We have never even tried to get a particular site, as feel it would be next to impossible. Unfortunately, they never can tell you until you check in.

We have only been disappointed once or twice in many years, and if there's another site available that meets your requirements better, they will usually let you move. Most of their sites are very nice, with a few not working because of size restriction, etc. Good luck! :goodvibes

thanks...I am not looking for a particular site. I was looking for a particular criteria concerning proximity to canals and such.

You can also drive through after assignment and if you see a better site that is empty, call the office back and ask for it. They will move you if it is free. In these days of early check-in, once a text is sent to a guest notifying/assigning them of their site number, it is no longer "free" even if it sits vacant for several hours.

I have done the above a couple times (and gotten disappointed by an empty site I wanted sitting empty for hours because it had already been texted to a guest).

I appreciate the advice. I just wish I could have more reassurance from Disney...I am stressed about it. I did have it noted though. I feel as though it is a take it or leave situation. Either take what they give you or leave.

Prior to the gator incident, I would have never cared. I wish they would reconsider the policy for this specific reason. The ages of my children were also placed in the note with the concern. I am sure if there is a site with my needs they will give to me gladly. My concern is at a busy time of year I will not be able to be in an area that I am comfortable with and thus I will either be stuck in an uncomfortable situation or leave without a refund.

so, I guess I was just trying to determine how likely it will be that I gladly have my needs met or I have to make a tough decision.

I will arrive early though in hopes of that helping.

I'm sure I am going to get flamed - but, here it goes anyway.

The incident involving the gator is a very, very rare incident. While it's good to be cautious in remembering wild animals are seen in and around the fort, the risk to you and your family is no worse than any other peril that can happen to you at the fort.

Hopefully, by time you go, things will have calmed down a bit giving you a little more confidence.

My thread is not about gators. Please be respectful of that. I have gotten what information I needed anyway. Thank you to those who helped.

I've driven through and had them switch me sites to an empty site that I liked better. I have small children as well, so the sites that back up too closely to a canal don't work either and I understand your concern. Get there very early for your best options.

1) People do not understand how sites are assigned.
. . . the computer assign sites 4-5 days in advance of check-in day
. . . any rooms/sites that don't fit easily are then slotted by the CM's "in-the-backroom" at the resort
2) When I work The Back Room, I do try to honor requests, but will not move people already assigned
. . . if someone is already assigned, how can we make them break their campsite for 1-2 days for someone else?
. . . would that be fair o you if it happened?
3) This is a complicated process.
4) Think of a giant Rubik's Cube or Tetris Game.
. . . not everything fits easily, neatly, or nicely
. . . we have to locate people where they can fit, not just where they want/desire
. . . of course, AFTER you are there, you can request to break your campsite an move to another site when available

to be clear, I never asked for anyone to be moved on my behalf.

I was hoping by being proactive in calling way in advance that I could have my concern addressed.

I do appreciate the explanation of how it happens.

Hopefully, the CM who slots me will understand my concern and be respectful of it.

RE: Reservation # xxxxxx

I am really looking forward to my stay at the Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground and am writing about campsite requests. I do understand that these are only requests and cannot be guaranteed.

If possible, I would like a site in Loop 700 with a site that will accommodate the following:

  • 42’ Fifth Wheel with 4 slides, 21’ Tow Vehicle
  • Pet
  • Would really appreciate site 730!
  • Would really appreciate site 730!

Thanks so much for your help, and once again I’m really looking forward to my visit to Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at xxx-xxx-1234 or by email at xxxxxxxx

P.S. We have had site 730 the past 4 visits, we really love the site!!

good luck!

I'm glad you have some good information about how Fort sites are assigned and better understand that all requests will not be granted... No matter how rational the need/concern/fear.

TeamBradfield.

I used to do the fax thing too, but I'm pretty sure TRS (a Fort CM) and several others have said they haven't taken faxes for quite awhile.

Most, seem to be having the best luck using the MDE app to note their requests.

Not sure which type of site you have reserved, but looking at the map, there are a few loops that do not water right next to them; 400 (preferred), 1700, 1900 (full) & 1200 (premium). The following have very small part of the loop near water; 1100, 700 (premium) & 100 (preferred). We have always had good luck getting the loop we request. Try requesting one of these loops. Good luck.

If you are in a tent, loop 2000 is also pretty isolated from water. The first couple of sites are kind of near the canal, but the sites quickly angle away from the water so even the ones that back up to the canal are pretty far away from it and there is quite a bit of brush blocking it. I used to not like Loop 2000 but it has grown on me quite a bit and this is one of the main reasons.

During check-in CMs will do everything in their power to make you happy. We have never, ever requested a site, but do request loops. We have never been disappointed. Only once have we returned to check-in to request a different site, and that was due to a very minor oversight on our part.
Relax, and look forward to your vacation.
FWIW, if the canals are causing such a huge concern for you (and if you've been following other threads, you know there are other potential dangers), I'd strongly reconsider if camping is best way for you to enjoy your stay at WDW.

I would also go in and look at the site on the map. Its a little easier than the drive thru check in. But it can be done... Just do not be in a hurry and they will work with you.

On our last trip, we got a nice site in 500. But it backed up to a canal and had a deep drop off. With a two year old, who thinks funny to run from you.... Had to go back up to the front and was moves to loop 700. Awesomely it backed up to the burm of the old railroad tracks.
