My DH and I are getting ready to book the date officially for our VR next August at SBP and we are both really excited. We have had to change our date because of work related things and finally are getting ready to put down our deposit. My question is this. What happens if there is a terrible storm or something? I know there are alternate locations but what exactly do they look like? I would hate to book SBP and then get moved into a ballroom when we could renew our vows in a ballroom here. Also, will they still do the ceremony at SBP if it is raining?

Does anyone have pictures of the alternate location for SBP or has this happened to you? We are on the fence between SBP and the Wedding Pavillion so any comments/stories are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

HI!
I'm getting married Aug 2009 at SBP and I have been wondering the exact same thing as you about the alternative sites. I will wait with you to see if anyone has any information.:)

Congratulations on being able to book!!

They will not allow you to still have the ceremony at SBP if it is raining. Even if it's just sprinkling they will move it. Depending on the number of guests (and the set up required) they may make the decision to move fairly early in the morning.

It threatened rain on my wedding day. At about 9 am my coordinator called and told me they were looking at alternate locations. I pleaded with her to give it a little more time and by the time of our wedding (11am) it was not raining and we were able to have our ceremony at SBP. But, it was just me and DH, so the "set up" was very basic/minimal. If you have a lot of guests and need a lot of chairs or if you have floral or any other special decorations, the decision to be moved will be made probably about 2 hours before your ceremony time.

Alternative locations are hard to determine because it depends so much on what is available on a specific date/time (and up to 2 hours before your ceremony and probably about 2 hours after).

Generally speaking, the ballrooms are probably one of the first alternatives simply because there are more of them and they can accommodate more people.

However I also know of one bride (LIGrumpyGirl) who's rained out SBP ceremony was moved to The Attic at the Boardwalk. That is a lovely location.

Rain is just one thing you absolutely cannot control and try not to stress too much over that part (I know, easier said than done).

In the end you will be getting married/renewing your vows at the most magical place in the world...even a little rain can't make it any less wonderful!;)

Well I just got off the phone with my wedding coordinator, Bri (who was quite helpful) and she sent me a picture of the ballroom they move you to in case of rain. It isn't a typical boring ballroom. It is actually very sweet and pretty. It reminds me of the GF ballroom I have seen pictures of only on a smaller scale. She also said they try to find a smaller space if possible but in Disney style make sure it is lovely. I am a visual person so seeing the picture made me feel a little better.princess:

That's really good to know. We are December 2009 and have Brie too - I've been really impressed with her so far :thumbsup2

I just signed my contract and my contract says the back-up location is Boardwalk Conference Center for my SBP location.

It would be such a shame to get rained out... I'd be gutted :sad1:
Things like this make me think we should use the WP, but I think we'd look lost just 12 of us, and it's and extra $1,000.

Does anyone have any photos of the various alternatives that have been discussed?

Keep in mind though that this picture was taken at cocktail hour so it is not set up the way it would be for a wedding.

Our ceremony is in Epcot in Italy - I requested a back up rain location when we were down for our site visit. It is America in Epcot. See if you can request a backup location prior to scheduling everything. This really put my mind at ease. They said this could not be guaranteed but at least I will have first dibs on it if we get bad weather.

Linda
