Well, we are moving forward with plans to buy DVC.

I am curious to some opinions as to our proposed purchase.

300 points at VWL...October use year. All points are available...$85 per point.

Does this sound like a decent deal? I understand I have to go through the ROF process as well. I am just freaking out a little...not every day I make this large of a potential purchase.

Thanks for your input!!!

Kristine

That should be near the ballpark for getting past ROFR and still getting a good financial deal for yourself, though a buck or two higher would probably increase your odds of passing ROFR. You might also ask the broker's opinion. And have you checked out this thread for others' experiences (see last page of thread for a summary)?:

Earlier this year I sold 50 WVL points at 85 and Disney snapped it up.

Good luck!

Cyn

I would go for it. If you don't pass ROFR you can always try on another contract.

Good luck!

In all honesty, I think 300 VWL points at $85 is very tempting for Disney to take. They can split the 300 points up anyway they want, and I'll bet anything there's a waiting list for people to buy VWL, 50 points here, 50 points there...

The only other factors that might make a difference are the agreements on paying closing costs, and how many points are in the contract, meaning are there any 2005 points already banked in or not. You already stated all 2006 points are available, and I presume none of the 2007 points have been borrowed and already used.

Keep in mind if Disney exercises ROFR, they get it and it's too late for you. You cannot come back with any kind of counter-offers.

That is correct...nothing is borrowed. We are paying the closing costs...guess it's a real crap shoot, huh? I am trying not to get my hopes up...but it is hard.

Good Luck, and be sure to let us know what happens, and also post to the ROFR thread so others can get an idea of what Disney is and is not ROFRing.

I think you have a good shot ... the majority of the listings at TSS for VWL are for $85.00 a point and I doubt TSS would advise all their clients to list for $85.00 if they thought the price wouldn't make it past Disney. Nobody really knows what Disney will do - still, I think you have a good chance! Good luck! :sunny:

I hope you are right...I am feeling pretty down about things right now...

I've been watching VWL sales for the past couple months. That seems like a good deal. They key to a good deal seems to be points. A stripped contract doesn't sell cheap enough, and fully loaded contracts don't have a big cost premium.

So you did good - the only question is ROFR. Some have gone through at that price, so I don't think ROFR is automatic. In fact, I've seen at least one go through cheaper with full points. The only question is whether or not Disney has gotten more agressive with ROFR. They have clearly gotten more agressive with small contracts. It looks like they have made a decision to use ROFR to keep people (or at least greatly reduce the number of people) buying in with <100 points. But I haven't seen an indication that they're really going after the larger contracts. (note - I'm just a casual watcher - don't take my word as gospel. If some of the serious point watchers contradict me - believe them, not me.)

Good luck!

FWIW, I also think you have a good chance, mostly because this is a 300 point contract. Sending pixie dust!

Let us know how you make out.

Best wishes -

I appreciate the positive words....I am crossing finger (and toes!) while trying not to get my hopes up too high!

Iam just curious. Why buy WVL at 89 (including closing) when you can buy SSR for 86, No ROFR, extra 12 years in the contract, lower MF and you can still go to WVL at 7 months. :confused3

I guess the short answer would be; SSR does not appeal to us whatsoever. One of the trips we take each year is a big family bash at Xmas/new year. WL would be where we want to spend it. For that reason, the 11 month window at WL would be more important.

Finally, my husband is quite a bit older than I am, so the 12 years extra years does not come into play for him at all...whereas his desires for our current vacationing do.

That is VERY sound thinking on your part! I have always aspired to the "own where you want to stay" mantra!

Kristine,

Good luck with your contract! Hopefully we can soon say "Welcome Home".

Thank you for the good vibes. Those would be 2 of the most exciting words I could hear!! Right now, I am hoping to make it through this waiting game without going too crazy :teeth:

Sounds like you have thought it out well. If this was a smaller contract, I think Disney would be more likely to snap it up. Based on the size od 300 points, I think you have a better than average shot. But again...there are lots of stories here of people who thoguht they would sail through and then got ROFR'd...and on the other end, too...those who were sure that Dinsey would grab it, but they didn't.

If it doesn't go through, you can always try for two 150-point contracts as those would be easier to sell if/when you stop going to WDW.

Kristine - Good luck with your contract, I hope you get it!

VWL is my home resort,so hopefully we'll be neighbors!

We just purchased through Disney, and with the referral it is $86/pp.

That's only $300 more than you are offering. Also our guide offered us Boardwalk Villas but we opted for SSR as that gives us 15 extra years over the others.

Just a thought. I considered purchasing resale, but with ROFR and this great incentive it seemd smart to go with Disney.
