Getting Ready to Buy - Reservation ?

Hi!

We've been researching renting points and are now looking to buy at Boardwalk - boy that was fast!

Anyway, I need the benefit of experience. Here is the scenario:

The membership is 305 points. Due to previous borrowing, we will get 115 pts on 2/1/2002. In Feb. 2003 we will get the full 305.

This is the confusing part. We want to make reservations for a trip in Oct 2003. The reservation will take 530 pts. In Nov. 2002 will I be able to borrow the 2003 pts of 305 AND take advantage of the fact that in Feb of 2003 I would be able to borrow some of 2004's pts to come up with the right total? It seems that I could certainly wait until Feb. 2003 to make the reservation, but I really wanted to take advantage of the 11 month window to get the dates we need. I hope that makes sense...

The woman at the resale organization says yes - but would hate to have miscommunicated and be wrong.

Let me see if I understand this correctly, you're buying a resale with a February use year?

The sellers have used some of their 2002 points and left you with 115? If this is so, you will have 115 points to use until January 31, 2003 OR they should be able to be BANKED, if you desire, for your October 2003 trip. If you plan to stay at your HOME resort at that time, you can reserve your vacation 11 months in advance, in your case, November 2002. If you are trying for a resort other than your home resort, you have to wait for the 7 month window. The remaining points that you need for your October 2003 vacation can then be borrowed from your 2004 use year. It's confusing because the idea of "use year" overlap each other in terms of "banking" or "borrowing points. I know this will sound stupid, but I think of it in terms of a sandwich, with the previous and following use years as the "bread" and the present use year as the "sandwich filling."

You won't have to borrow 2003 points because even though you will be making your ressie in 11/2002, you won't be travelling until your use year time frame in 2003. In other words, you'll be making a 2003 ressie with points from your 2003 use year, except for those you'll have to borrow (forward) from 2004, which you can do because you'll be borrowing only ONE YEAR forward from your 2004 use year into your 2003 use year vacation.

You have to be careful about banking points though. There is a time limit as to when you can bank the entire contract amount of points, when it drops to being able to bank only HALF the contract amount, and it continues to drop to being able to bank only a QUARTER of the contract amount about three months before the end of your use year.
