hi all,

I'm in a bind....I have trouble finding people who want to go with me to Disney. I have been there twice in the last 3 years, and one of the friends I went with will not go back with me. The other friend is being wishy washy. Do any of you have the same problem? (Especially, the single guys on here).

Also, have any of you ever been to disney alone? I think about doing that but I am afraid I'd get too lonely!

Brian

Brian,

I have a partner, but last year had the opportunity to do Disneyland solo. It was one of the best trips ever! I could do what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it! I could sit and people watch, relax, ride the attractions that my partner would not do, etc...

Also, we have a few Cast Members and local Orlando folks here who are often anxios to meet new people, and would love to meet you in the parks for a few hours!

You may also want to go over to the "08 trips planned" thread to see if there are any other folks traveling the same dates as you have planned!

In which case it all depends on you. I really enjoy traveling alone, but I'm also the sort of person that has no problem going out for a nice meal alone or going to the movies alone. If it makes you really uncomfortable, you should do it. Nothing keeps you young like stepping out of your comfort zone :cool1:

I don't have many friends and the ones I do have are not big on Disney...well one is but he is married with 3 kids so he can't go with me. Some of my family loves to go but can not afford it so I have gone to Disneyland many time alone and to WDW 3 times alone. While there are times I really wish someone were there sharing with me I also love being alone as I can do what I want, when I want. I get up early and am at the gates way early. Many people want to just get up and get going slowly. I take lots of photos and video and when I am with people that needs to be curtailed as I fell I am stalling the group. I eat where I want with no one to complain about the food or prices. It can be awesome but it is not for everyone. I would give it a try and if you get lonely this time don't plan it again but you might be surprised.

I think Disneyland is an easier park to do alone. It doesn't have that "isolated" feel that WDW has. It feels kinda urban...maybe that'd be a good park to start with. Have you ever been?

If my boyfriend had time he could take off, he would go to Disney with just about anyone. He's addicted and he would go by himself if he didn't have to drive around (he doesn't like ME or Disney Transportation outside the monorail).

As for me, I'm in different, I often travel for business by myself with overnight stays and have zero issues occupying myself, but Disney to me is something that you do with friends/family. I'm sure I would do it came to it, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much. I might have the opportunity in a few years when I'm making job transfer arrangements to Orlando.

I've been to DIsneyland once. it's kind of a hike from NY though!

I know! I have the opposite trouble. Living on the West Coast, WDW is still my favorite destination. But it's a long flight and expensive. DL is a much shorter trip in so many ways (for me). Still, I'd much rather have a day or two alone in DL than at WDW.

I did WDW solo back in April. I had a blast. I had never done a solo trip before, but I would love to do it again sometime. It's so nice to not have to think about what someone else wants, needs, or feels. Being in the moment isn't a gift that I give myself very often, but it was a great long weekend trip.

I enjoyed meeting several folks from the internet along the way, including two of the board mods, Mike and Rick & his partner, Joe. All of whom were wonderful to meet in person and I wish that I had the luxury of more time to spend with all of them. I also got to meet Deb Wills and the crew of folks that make AllEars.Net tick. That was a fun group too!

I traded over 100 pins out during my stay, which of course gave me the chance to run my mouth with the CM's and a few guests. I met lots of nice people that I would never have met had I not been alone. I also had an amazing character experience with Mary Poppins, Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Alice in Wonderland, Chip & Dale, and Jiminy Cricket. But, my favorite Disney thing that I did was the Lunch with an Imagineer at the HBD at DHS. That was so much fun. I even had the good fortune of meeting a DIS'er at that lunch, so it was neat to know that I was surrounded by other hard core Disney planning nuts. ;)

If you have the chance to go solo, then by all means go. There is no reason to be lonely. Heck, take a stuffed animal with you and photograph it having the time of it's life in the parks. You would be surprised how much fun it is and how many interesting conversations that it sparks. Of course, it never hurts to realize that it's kind of a dorky thing to do either.

Dont worry about going solo, it is a BLAST!! You can do whatever you want whenever you want to do it. And if you worry about getting lonely there are THOUSANDS of happy CMs who will gladly talk to you! It really is not a big deal and before you know it you will be having so much fun doing what you love to do in the parks that you will forget your alone! Don't let not having a traveling partner stop you.

Disney cast members tend to focus on guests who travel alone. They start up conversations with people who are alone in order to make them feel comfortable. (I haven't gone to WDW alone yet, but cast members told me this tidbit of information.)

As far as getting people to go goes, I kind of know how you feel. I currently only have one friend who is willing to go with me, but we live about 400 miles apart from each other, so planning these things can be a pain.......and the only reason he's going with me this October is because he knows I love WDW so much. (Hmmmmm.......I should've dated him when I had the chance. :lmao: )

Anyhoo, there also tends to be a few times a year when people from this site and a couple others I've seen tend to meet up at the parks.

Welcome to the site, Brian. :)

Welcome Brian. I have gone solo a number of times (check out my handle). It is really great to do what you want to do when you want to do it, whether it's hitting the parks at the very opening, or sleeping in and checking out your resort amenities. Meals are a bit of a drag, (bring a paperback) and I like a bit of nightlife (and now that the AC is closing, I'll be limited). But overall, a solo trip can be a blast. Give it a try!

I agree with you about the meals. I'm a pretty social person who is overly chatty at times and I think the solitary nature of dining alone would bother me. I think the actual rides wouldn't be so bad, but I think that I'd feel silly screaming on Splash Mountain alone :-(

I hear pretty much a subway token for the MBTA will get you whatever you want! ;)

YOU- heard wrong.
The term "High Maintenance Blonde" applies here!

You need a stack of bills - this big - to ride this ride.
