Getting my carpets cleaned for the first time...

dry clean or steam clean? I have been told no, but I always do anyway.

Stanley Steemer has always brought in a high power vaccuum and cleaned before they shampooed.

I use to work for a carpet cleaning company. It is always best to vacuum your carpets good before having them cleaned. Our company would charge you, if you wanted them to vacuum for you. Of course, you would want to pick up anything loose on the carpet also.

Our guys would come back from jobs and tell us they would arrive at a house and there would be all kinds of junk, toys, etc. on the carpets they were suppose to be cleaning they would have to wait for the people to pick up before they could start.

Anyway, yes, vacuum before cleaning. I have a dog so I must vacuum, or her fur will clog everything up!

Not only do I vacuum before, but I always make sure everything I possibly can is picked up off of the floor. Any small pieces of furniture, chairs, etc. everything is piled on the beds or in the kitchen/dining room which is hardwood. I just want to make it easier for the carpet cleaners.

You must be lucky. We have Stanley Steemer come out and clean our carpet twice a year. I don't think they have ever vaccuumed.

We usually vaccuum before they get there though.

OK great! I'll run the vacuum first. I've got almost everything up off the floors that I can possibly. I've got a lot of stuff though.
