Getting kids out of school

Show me a post where anyone has had a go at those parents who go in the summer holidays? Well? I thought not!

So you're saying that, because of MEDICAL reasons that proclude my DD and I from going in temperatures of 100 degrees and above then we ahould miss out on a trip to WDW?

Jelousy and bitterness, nothing - I'm more concerned about the ;piousness and holier than thou attitude of SOME posters personally!

well YOU are for a start!!

Im sorry I just dont understand. You are saying that you have MEDICAL reasons why you and your daughter can not go to wdw in high temperatures... why would you miss out on a trip to wdw if you cant go in high temperatures? Do you not have time off in December? or Easter or half terms in October or February? There is plenty of time in the school holidays that it is not THAT hot. Of course, it is your choice to go in term time... but dont make excuses that you cant go other times due to the weather. For at least 7 - 8 months of the year, the weather is not that extreme in Orlando. In fact even during May, June July, August and September you will be unlucky to find the temperature at 100 degrees or over.

I am sorry that having high standards and expectations is seen as "piousness and holier than thou attitude" - ah.. it makes me laugh!!

It just about says it all really... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

The trouble is we can't all go at the same time as there is not enough flights. I had trouble booking for October 2006 when I booked in August and still could not get the airline I wanted.

I wish it was like the good old days when no one cared if you went to school or not. My mum let me off school every tuesday as I hated double PE and my husband never went to school from the age of 14.
Both of us have very well paid jobs and have just bought into DVC paying cash and are taking two other families with us when we go next. We do not have a problem with the high prices - I just have trouble getting the time off work because everyone wants the same time.

I am also glad most people would not take their children out of school which means I might be able to get away with it. :rotfl:

My head is now spinning.

The whole topic has been blown out of proportion.

It was a simple Q and A!

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

It is a shame that a sensible question turns into such a slanging match. I wasn't going to post a message on here to be honest but throught perhaps a gentle reminder was needed as to why we all visit this site in the first place. We all have a common love of all things Disney and want to give our families the holiday of a lifetime. Though some of us are fortunate to go more than once for many it is just A ONCE IN A LIFETIME THING. If the only way they can afford to do that is in term time then I for one will not stand in their way. At the end of the day the happy memories such a holiday will create will last a lifetime and everyone deserves a little Disney magic.

The whole topic has been blown out of proportion.

Well said Andip and again to try and answer your original question, you will have to find out what the individual schools policy is and hopefully they will be fine with a phone call or a letter to ask permission, good luck and I really hope you have a wonderful trip

yes youre right andip1967 - its not your fault - its just one of those subjects here that is a bit fiery!! (to say the least!!!)

I hope that you get the answer you need and that you have a fab time!

andip -hopefully a sensible answer for you.

We do not normally take our children out of school, but we had long planned to go to US this year as it is our 15th wedding anniversary, asn we went to DL on a couple of days of our honeymoon and said then "we must come back for the 50th birthday". We decided to go to WDW instead (shorter flight!!) and at Easter - originally planned to take only the Easter holidays, but it went up by £600 per person from the Friday before Good Friday :earseek:

I wrote to the school explaining why we wanted to take the children out - the HT authorised it because she knows education is not just sitting in a classroom! We made up trip journals for our two DS to complete and they took them in to "show" when we got back (look at themouseforless - great pages to print out!). I think when schools get difficult is if you take them our over exam times, or if you're a lucky person with a second property and keep nibbling bits of the end/beginning of a week to go to Portugal or wherever.

Have a lovely holiday!

What a palaver over a question :confused3

Anyway the answer i can give you is this - here in Coventry your child needs to ask their year head for a holiday form, this is then filled in by their parents and handed back in to their year head - then it goes through their channels (whatever that might be) we done this for our DS last earlier this year (for him to have 2 days off) and we will be doing it again in December (to have 6 days off before the official school holiday) we found no problems whatsoever and when the time comes for their parents evening it clearly states on their register that the absense had been approved, so you should have no problems.

Have a wonderful time.

Our son is Autistic and his school have in the past had no problems us taking him out of school - up to 10 days I believe.
However, as my wife now works as a teacher we are really stuck to a degree with the Summer Holidays now - after all 6-7 weeks is such a long time to be off.
From now on we are looking at 3 week Florida holidays in August.

The travel companies, we go with Virgin, really do have you at a disadvantage really with the ridiculous fly-drive prices, although having said that we have had a few bargains over the years, so guess we cannot complain too much.

At last.

Sensible answers.

Thanks everyone, for those who have put me straight.

Lets hope the weather stays fine. Dont have any wooly mittens (the ones with the string pulled thru the arms) LOL :rotfl2:

Im taking my kids out for ten days very soon  I asked for a holiday form from the school office handed it in with the days we wanted and then the headmaster sent me a form saying it was fine :)
My DD's form tutor asked if he could come with us :teeth: I think alot of schools are okay as long as your ask them and its not on a regular basis.

Don't forget value season starts in August - if you have to holiday then it works out cheaper to get a fly-drive + direct booking Disney rather than getting a whole package (wish I'd known  )
