Resort Thread Disney's CONTEMPORARY Resort

They better not touch my childhood!
Well it has been updated a number of times since it opened in 1995 at it current Contemporary resort location on the Grand Concourse.

It was originally located at the old Disney Village Marketplace ( Downtown Disney and ultimately Disney Springs as it is now known.

They updated the contemporary version of chef mickeys? Lol it looks like it’s straight from 95

I had no idea there was even construction going on. I can’t escape it!

FWIW I do hope they eventually overhaul the Grand Canyon Concourse because it really is giving 1970s airport terminal. The lobby redo was so nice I wished the whole resort looked like that.

I had missed it too, until it came up on this thread. Seems somewhat contained and isolated though, at least from what little can be gleaned from afar, but who knows as things progress.

I feel the same about the fourth floor - it’s unfortunate it was largely overlooked from all the 50th anniversary and following years glow up work around the resort. Although I guess it just adds to CR’s rather confusing overall confluence of various themes, history, IP, etc… lol.

You’d think with hard goods refurbs for cash rooms and BLT that it would be the perfect time to upgrade these common areas 🤷‍♂️

I love Bay View Gifts, but it’s showing its age. The modern theme looks very dated when it gets old.

And now BLT has pretty decent nostalgic MK/Tomorrowland theming and I’m stuck with Edna Mode looking over me while I sleep. 😠
Exactly! I love the Joey Chou artwork and BLT carried the best elements of the Incredibles rooms over like the monorail mirrors in the bathrooms.

I cannot unsee the “pig snout” wallpaper you mentioned years ago after it went up. What were they thinking?

It’s sad CR and Poly got caught up in the big IP push for deluxe rooms. GF luckily escaped that. We can still blame Chapek, right? 🤣

Agree. From what I’ve seen, they really did a better job with the BLT refurb than the CR one. I don’t even hate the Incredibles theming, the BLT and main lobby just nailed the nostalgia, “Tommowland-ness” mid-century modern vibe. Seems more timeless. Hope they can clean-up the incongruousness of the 4th floor one day.

Honestly, having seen Fantastic Four: First Steps a couple of times I'm dying for them to redo the rooms like Baxter Tower. The whole thing was a very Tomorrowland vibe and the lobby sort of looks like it anyway.

I'm bracing myself for the Incredi-cheese, but I keep saying it's only 3 nights and the view/walking distance will be worth it.

I'll report back on any construction I see.

The location and walk to MK make any theming forgivable to me and make easily overlook the mishmash 4th floor. Have a great trip.

Yes! I love The Incredibles as a movie, but I feel the theming is a bit of a stretch (pun intended 🤣). I agree the first floor looks great! If the rooms were mid-century modern like the lobby with some framed Incredibles artwork I think it would have been more sophisticated.

YES! I swear I thought the same thing when I watched that movie. The sets were stunning and it would be beautiful!
