Getting Jaded by Going Too Often?

Our 10 day trip which ended on Mon. 1/10 was our best and the one with the shortest gap between it and the previous trip, 9 months. I was concerned that I wouldn't appreciate the Orlando weather as much since previous trips were usually in March and were a welcome break from PA winters and that having not waited a year that 'The World' would seem familiar and old hat. Neither happened, but I'm curious if those going several times a year get jaded by the whole thing. Is Disney something that requires absence in order to make the heart grow fonder? Soon we'll be in a position to take spur of the moment trips, several a year, and I suppose I'll see then. What's your experience?

Now that I am able to go every month if not more, I did wonder if it would become boring or same-old-same-old. So far my experience has been that I feel more freedom to enjoy the parks at a much slower pace and I look for details I would have missed if I were trying to 'do it all' in a week, as I had done previously.

Maybe at some point it will be less exciting, but I don't think so. ;)

Agreed. We used to live in FL and went to WDW several times a year and never tired of the experience. The beautiful thing is that there were many times that we would go into a park like Epcot, grab a beer and just sit back and watch the crowds tear around. We would maybe do a couple rides, if we were in the mood to stand in line. It actually felt like a real vacation, rather than a typical Disney visit, where you need a couple days at home to recover from your trip! :D

I wondered about this also last year because I went 4 times. BUT, everytime I've gone it's been a different experience for me....with different family members or friends. We no longer feel the need to rush and do it all. And each visit I can honestly say we did something or saw something we had never done before. We all still get excited when we see Mickey, even if we did see him a month ago. We can stroll down Main St, take our time in the countries and just enjoy it all. And as a vacation should be.....RELAX.

My dh doesn't like to go more than once a year and he would most likely love just going every 18 months. But, he doesn't mind if dd and I go more often. We have also found that going more often lets us relax and not rush around with that must see everything mentality. On our trip in Nov for Thanksgiving my dd, 11, actually wanted to go to Community Hall at BWV instead of a park to do a craft project!!! We had just been in August.

So, no we don't get jaded, just more relaxed!!! And we can enjoy those little things that are so often overlooked.

I'll let you know when we get back from our weekend trip in a few weeks. We were just there 6 weeks ago! :earboy2: Since we've got AP's, our plan is to go to Disney 4 times this year. Yikes!! :earseek:

Our upcoming trip (see below) will be our shortest time span between trips (8 months). Since we were just there, we're planning to "stop & smell the roses." Spend a lot of time at World Showcase, do things we haven't ever done. In all our previous trips, we've never ridden the Liberty Bell Riverboat. Gonna do that this trip. Never seen an afternoon parade-gonna do that. We try to do something "new" every trip to keep it fresh. Can't wait for our segway tour.

Welcome back Bill!

Our trip in April will be our 4th within a year - all the AP's fault

Each trip was very different and I'm more relaxed and able to enjoy the extended family that joined us on the last trip.

Just last year we went with friends and the unscheduled bathroom breaks drove me insane. (I'd be standing waiting for them to show up at the meeting place and they'd be late).

We waited for the barbershop two trips ago which I never would have done 2 yrs ago, but still very memorable.

Each trip we do something new. Spent much more time in FW, although WS is my favorite spot overall, etc.

Jimmiej, you will LOVE the Segway tour!
I think you might miss Liberty Bell though...I think it's going down for refurbishment in the next week or two. Not 100% positive about that but I know I crossed it off my list for a reason and I think this was why. LOL

Have a great trip!

I wondered the same thing with living down here and working at WDW. But no, it hasn't happened! I love to have guests and take them to the parks and see it through their eyes. This past trip in Oct (me and hubby at the Polynesian) was one of our best! Once a Disney fan, always a Disney fan! I am glad that you had such a wonderful time! See ya real soon!

Yes jaded, this is our 5th trip with kids and DH and I took one w/o since 98. I think we definitely need to wait for some new stuff to come out.

Living here, as others have stated, gives you the opportunity to take it easy and do things that you might not normally do during a commando trip.

One thing we definitely don't do is an all-day park trip. We know we can come at any time, so we don't feel compelled to cram it all in.

Definitely not jaded at all.

Ok, kathmzh, I'll flesh it out a little. All the planning paid off in that I was able to get 3 days at Swan and 3 at Dolphin at the Teacher's rate, filling in with 2 days at AllStar. Also, the Fun in the Sun passes saved us $$ and got us 9 park days for less than a 7 day hopper +, now defunct. To top it off, USAir got us and our luggage to and from WDW on schedule, New Year's day to and 1/10 from.

The weather was 75 - 85 the whole 10 days with about 1/2 hour of mist one morning that gave way to sun. After Jan. 2 we didn't need or use FastPass, got to only 2 rope drops and still walked on most rides with the exception of TestTrack. We never stayed for the 3 hr evening EMH as we had our fill due to low crowds, instead hitting JellyRolls one night, ESPN Club another and PI all the rest. Our passes gave us entree' to DisneyQuest so we tried that one evening on the way to PI. It was fun but I wouldn't pay for it out of pocket.

By prior arrangement we met jj721 from these boards at the Rose & Crown who brought his lovely daughter along. We toased the troops, then had another for ourselves. I saw a gal in all lime green, including a handbag, but we were stuck in the Stitch line and lost her. Every day felt like 3 with a morning shift at the park du jour, then a second shift at WS with dinners at Teppanyaki, Morocco, Le Cellier and Italy. Naturally we sampled liberally of the brews of the world. Each evening was either a Boardwalk night or PI. Hit the Comedy Warehouse each visit at PI, ending the night at the Adventurer's Club.

But trip's end we really felt like we'd been there a month, and we eliminated the 'Park Commando' behavior I exhibit when I'm flogging my family to get up, get to the parks and get on the rides. Did I mention that it was just the two of us thist time? We'll probably have one more like ths (at least) before we do the extended family thing in March of 2007 when my soon to be second granddaughter will be two. The reason we went at this time instead of March is that she's due early March this year.

In a few days I'll sort through our digital pics and replace the tired photo on this page, taken last March, with a current one, preferrably with wifey in it.

The more times I go per year ...each one seems to be more eventful and enjoyable then the last...

I would love the opportunity to get "Jaded". There was a 4 year break between our first and second trip. There was a 3 year break between our 2nd and 3rd trip, there was a 2 year break between our 3rd & 4th trip. We hope to get it down to a yearly event.....So we're nowhere close to being jaded, but will continue to try.

Unfortunately Disney has the opposite effect on me. The more often I go, the more I wanna keep going back!! :earboy2:

Of course this is dependent on you. However, we went 8 times in 2004 and didn't hesitate to go again in January.

This is from allears:

Liberty Square Riverboat will be closed for refurbishment Sunday, January 23 -February 5th.

We're planning to go to MK Feb 7 & 9. Should be OK. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Oops, it's not Liberty Bell Riverboat. It's Liberty Square Riverboat. See, I told you I've never ridden it, LOL.
