Getting iphone: AT&T or Verizon?

I had Verizon for my home service, when we had home service, and they were the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with in terms of both reliability and customer service. So no Verizon, ever, for me. On the other hand, I've had AT&T for years, and have had iPhones since they first came out, and have never had a problem. I travel quite often, and the only two places that I have ever lost service is northern Washington state, and northwestern Arizona, in the desert. So AT&T is my pick!

Oh, and my unlimited data plan doesn't run slow at all. DS is on one of the limited plans, and there's no difference in the speed, they're both pretty snappy.

I just don't get why so many people claim their ATT Iphone doesn't work when they travel. I've never had any problems at home or on the road??????

Also I have unlimited data and my phone isn't slow.

You really need to ask other people local to you.

I had ATT for years. Loved them Loved their customer service. I had 4 spots along my commute (which was when I usually chatted with my father) that I would lose service. Usually drop the call. It was so bad, that my dad, friends and others knew when talking to me to say "are you at the Teddy Rooselvelt bridge?" Years ago I'd had Cingular before they were bought by ATT and it was the same drop spots then. Went to Verizon, then tried ATT. I liked the service and plan, so I stayed with them thru 2 or 3 phones (back when I didn't use it so much). It got worse, not better. And it was worst with the iPhone. I finally gave up and switched to Verizon. Have had only one call drop in the year I've been with them. But I know others around here that have had the same complaint.

We have Verizon (we were with Alltel for years when they switched to Verizon). I went last week to look at phones because mine is about shot, and the salesperson told me not do anything until after the 28th of this month. She said she couldn't say what was happening, but that I should wait to hear about the new plans/products. So I'm waiting to see! Only 5 days to go....

I read that Verizon was scrapping their whole voice plan/data plan scheme and doing some type of unlimited voice and text with shared data on any device registered with them. (Data would still be limited) It said if you had 2 smart phones or a smart phone and tablet you could share the data.

We've had ATT for about 2 1/2 years, and have had no problems at all. The coverage is good. Yes, there are some locations we've traveled to where it was difficult to get a signal, but in general, signals are good. The customer service has been good.

Bad, bad, bad advice from that salesperson! (Not to mention that she flat out lied to you.) Just do a google search for 'new Verizon plans' and you'll find all of the info. It's called the Share Everything plan. It isn't a secret, as Verizon Wireless already issued a press release about it a couple of weeks ago. It's been all over the news.

Depending, you might save money with the new plan, or you might not. In any rate, you're allowed to switch to the new plan if you wish to. If you have 3 or more smartphones on your plan, if you need unlimited minutes and texts, or if you plan to 'share' your data with an iPad, tablet, hotspot, etc it might be a better deal for you. In my personal case, my bill would raise from $100 to $170 per month if I chose to take the new plan.

Do your homework now, and if the old plan is better for you, make sure you activate BEFORE June 28th. There's a calculator on the Verizon Wireless website that will tell you what the price will be with the new plan.

Personally, I would not buy an iPhone until the next version is released (probably in October). The current version does not support 4G service and thus is significantly slower than other phones (about 10 times slower). Apple really dropped the ball on that one!

I agree that with the unlimited data the phone operates normally. But I am one who is consistently surprised when I travel just how bad the ATT network seems to be. I went to Phoenix.....rarely a signal. I went to SF....not much signal. NY? Same thing. I do not live in a large city so the lack of 3G or even a good Edge connection doesn't surprise me here. But in major cities....I expected ATT to be great. It is almost consistently disappointing. One place it worked well was the Big Island. I got ATT there and others in my group had zero Verizon signal.

Verizon has better coverage in my area, so that is the company I go with.

I had AT&T 10 years ago when they were pretty much my only option but the coverage was horrible and their customer service was non-existent.

We are much happier with Verizon, especially now that they have the iPhone and we can have the best of both worlds (at least for us).

Verizon wireless hands down has better coverage virtually everywhere. AT&T craps out for me all over Florida and even in Chicago in the middle of the city!

it's also more expensive

granted, I have an iPhone 3GS.

Verizon. I have AT&T and my coverage is horrible, I was in Downtown Charlotte NEXT to the AT&T center and lost my call. DH has Verizon and has never had an issue, except in the North East where depending on how far in the middle of nowhere you are service is iffy. The South Carolina/Georgia mountains however he still had 4 bars, I had no service. We stay with them because we are grandfathered into the unlimited data.

I would go with Verizon. I have the iPhone 4S on Verizon and I have excellent coverage. My sister and BIL have iPhones on the AT&T network and they have problems with tons of dropped calls and coverage.
