Me = Claire (33), massive Disney fan, chief planner…(a little on the OCD side ) obsessive shopper, addicted to scrapbooking and very impulsive which doesn’t bode well for our credit cards!

Hubby = Lee (34), not a massive Disney fan but still enjoys it, adrenaline junkie, easy going and the sensible half of our partnership!

9th December 2008.

I woke up very excited this morning as we are finally going to Disney!!! :yay: As much as I always enjoy US/IOA etc I was desperately wanting to get to Disney. I was particularly looking forward to seeing the Wilderness Lodge.

We got showered & packed the last few things into our case. I checked the bill that had been poked under the door during the night and completed the express checkout envelope. We loaded the car & were on our way to the Wilderness Lodge by 9.30am! :woohoo:

We walked into the WL lobby & were totally gobsmacked to see the beautiful Christmas tree & stunning lobby. I stood for a minute or two and soaked it all up. :cloud9: We walked over to the check in desk but our room was not yet ready, no suprise here as it was very early. We were still able to be checked in and they gave us our Key to The World cards & explained a little about the Dining Plan as it was our first time using it. We then stored our luggage & had a walk around the Lobby and took a few photos:

We stopped off at Roaring Forks and had a Hot Chocolate each, Lee had a blueberry muffin. We then decided to go & get some lunch at Downtown Disney & have a wander around the shops so we headed to the bus stop. The bus came within about 10 minutes & we were soon at DTD (via the Grand Floridian). We looked around most of the shops in the Marketplace area. I spent an absolute fortune in the Christmas shop & also picked up some scrapbooking bits too.

Lee was feeling really poorly & didn’t want anything to eat so I opted to get a quick bite from Earl of Sandwich. I made Lee sit & rest at a table outside whilst I queued up and got the Hawaiian BBQ (Hawaiian BBQ ham, fresh pineapple and Swiss cheese. - $4.95) it was YUM! I also got a Tomato Soup for Lee, although he only managed to eat a little bit.

Afterwards we had a look around the Lego shop:

Followed by a quick peak at the new T-Rex restaurant & menu:

Here is one of the displays in World of Disney, I loved the Santa Mickey head bauble & had to get one. :lovestruc

Lee was feeling very light headed & needed to rest so we got the bus back to the hotel. It was about 4pm, I went back up to check in to get our room number, which was 1015. We were on the ground floor not too far from Roaring Forks which was very useful as we decided to buy the refillable cups - the Hot Chocolate was lovely & we drank loads of it during our stay.

We called the bell desk and arranged for our luggage to be delivered, which came very quickly. Lee helped me with the unpacking then he had a lay down on the bed & caught the 2nd half of the Chelsea Champions League match on the tv.

We then got showered & changed for our dinner reservation at Narcoosee’s. I wanted to get to the Grand Floridian a bit early so we could have a look around & see the Christmas decorations. We went down to the boat dock & there was a boat just arriving it was the one which goes over to the Contemporary (via Fort Wilderness) so we jumped on that & then took the Monorail from the Contemporary to the GF. The Christmas tree & Lobby was beautiful, apart from Animal Kingdom Lodge we had never been to any of the Disney resorts so was keen to see a few this trip.

They also had a huge Gingerbread House which was amazing!

They actually sell the gingerbread at a little counter around the back of the house, I got a gingerbread shingle (which is one of the roof tiles). I ate it a few days later, it was nice.

Cont'd below......

We walked over to the restaurant for our 7.45pm reservation.

We waited about 10 minutes before being seated. Unfortunately we were seated at the very first table as you walk into the restaurant which didn’t have a window seat or a view in the Magic Kingdom direction.

We ordered some drinks, Lee just had a coke as he had taken lots of medicine today, I opted for a Raspberry Mojito, which was lovely!!!!

P1030667.jpg

I ordered a Filet Mignon (well done) which came with a potato gratin, brocollini & Charon sauce. As you can tell the outside was very well done but the inside was lovely and juicy. I wasn’t over keen on the potato gratin but it’s not really my thing, I still ate it though. :teeth:

Lee had the Free-Range Chicken Breast which was served with loaded mashed potatoes, Swiss chard, and Nueske's bacon vinaigrette. He also ordered a side of Spinach, not pictured.

For dessert Lee had the Gelato Sampler, from Left to right, Chocolate, Sabayon, Raspberry & Pistachio:

I ordered the almond-crusted cheesecake with lambert cherry sauce. It was DELICIOUS!!

The bill was $20 + tip & 2 Table Service Credits per person. I really enjoyed this meal & will definitely go back, the only downside was Lee was really suffering with this flu virus & having hot & cold sweats by the end of the evening. We got a taxi back to the Wilderness Lodge, it only cost about $7 + tip it was the best option as Lee just needed to sleep.

Lee went straight to bed whilst I collected our cups & went to Roaring forks to get some Hot Chocolate by the time I got back Lee was asleep - oh well two hot chocolates for me then. I then surfed the internet & downloaded our photos to the laptop before going to bed.

Coming up….Day 10 – Cancelling our trip to Kennedy & Lee sleeps and sleeps and sleeps!

Am really enjoying your trip report. So sad that you were both ill, looking forward to reading more and looking at more photos. :thumbsup2

The food looks delicious!! :cool1: Shame Lee was so ill :sad2:

great towel animals Claire :goodvibes

Lovely report. Wilderness Lodge looks lovely and especially with that lovely tree. I loved seeing the festive photos, thanks for sharing. Sorry that Lee was feeling bad. I drank loads of hot chocolate too and still am. My eldest kept telling me to stop calling it drinking chocolate as that was the wrong name. Anyway today proved to him that drinking chocolate does exist and it wasn't just me getting in a muddle again.

I also love the towel animals :thumbsup2 .Poor Lee,like you said it would have been better if you were both poorly at the same time(well really not at all)but you know what i mean.Great pics Claire-that GingerBread House is amazing+do you mean that they sell it bit by bit-once it's made :confused3 -would'nt it go stale-or have i completley got the wrong end of the stick  .x.

No they sell the same shaped bits as used on the house but not actually the house, as like you say it would go stale. :)

Awww poor Lee!!!!! I had flu in December 2007 at WDW and it really wasn't fun. :( Loved all the festive pics - makes me feel Christmas-y all over again!!! Seems ages since I spent $$$ in the Days of Christmas shop - oh well, it's good to give the Amex card a rest... ;)

Glad you liked WL, Claire - we stayed there for the first time (DVC) in May and absolutely loved it. :cloud9: In fact, we liked it so much DD Sophie and I are staying there again in September... :goodvibes :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Lovely pics, I love Narcoossee's I can't wait to go back here in a few weeks:)

I didn't realise you could get to watch any UK footie on Disney TV. We always find it so limiting. What channel was the Chelsea match on?

Wonderful photos.
