My husband of 23 years is taking our 9-yr-old son and me to WDW this Sept. We've been there about 8 times. I've been studying for days on these boards, and have decided I want to buy a DVC Resale. I haven't said too much to him, but am sure he'd at least be open to owning a DVC. We're staying at the Beach Club Villas, and I was thinking of waiting until he sees how much he likes it there before telling him I think we should buy. Any tips from happily marrieds on how to get him as enthused as me about buying?

If you are staying in anything but a studio I think he might go for it, otherwise, a studio is pretty much like most hotel rooms, I don't think he will be that moved by it. He should love the pool there and the location of the place. You should not have too much trouble because you are repeat visitors.

While your walking around or even in the lobby there are DVC stands. Just start a conversation with them and take a tour. do it early in your visit so your not rushed. Worked for us in January.

That's a good idea. Do you know where the tour would take us, which resort/s?

Work on him, work on him, work on him! I did with my DH and now we own a resale at OKW. It took me about a year and a half for him to show some interest. I would definitley get him to take the tour at DVC. When he sees the bigger accomodations, he should be sold. Also if you tend to go to WDW once to every other year and like to stay in deluxe resorts it is well worth it. Good luck!

Sign up for the tour. Tell DH the cost of this trip can be covered by selling back the first year's points. Look into resales at the top of this page, so you will be informed about price.

We own a summer Sanibel Island week, and I just think having a DVC would be the perfect way to round out our portfolio. I KNOW he can be persuaded..I just have to figure out a way to justify the cost. I'm so glad I posted here, because I'm making a DVC Tour a definite!

Is it standard to be able to sell back points the first year anytime or is it only an offer you take it/leave it during the open house?

LOL-DH and "enthusiasm" were mutually exclusive, he was just "whatever you want to do is fine with me" about buying DVC. Anyone else know that response? I even went on the tour by myself! But I came in with a list of reasons written on a paper, like a little "persuasian" speech and it impressed him enough to buy. The reasons I had weren't too strong-just that the price had risen so much in the past two years (implying good investment), 1 BR accomodations, stuff like that-it was just the idea that I had spent the time and effort to write stuff down. The enthusiasm has really come AFTER we bought and took a few trips. Now he proudly displays a DVC luggage tag on his laptop computer, and wore a "Members are Magical" jacket on his last business trip. So what if he still has to ask "'Members are....' what's that word?" He's getting there!

First, do the math. That's what I did. I've always had money from every paycheck direct deposited into a vacation savings account. Then, when we would go to Disney I would take the money from savings to pay for the hotel. I figured what I was spending each year on Disney hotels (divided by 12 months) and realized that's about what the DVC payment would be each month.

So I explained that instead of taking the money out once or twice a year to pay for the Disney hotel, it would come out monthly to pay the DVC loan. In the long run it was about the same amount annually either way. So we financed for 10 years and set up a direct debit from our savings account (that my paycheck money goes into for vacations).

I'm also happy to say that I've been able to pay more on the loan and it will be paid in full this January, exactly five years early to the day!

Good luck!

I agree with ReneeQ about first doing the math....men seem to appreciate the numbers the most.

My DH was reluctant at first mostly because we already own Marriott timeshares and he felt that we could trade into Orlando whenever he wanted....I told him yes....but you can't trade into Disney whenever you want.

So after 2 years of "hints" DH finally agreed because I was able to find a good resale contract at a price that made sense to him.

Our DSs still talk about our last WDW trip 2 years ago and the fun they had and that helps also.

Good luck!

After our trip in April 03 to the WL I called DVC and ordered an information package. DH was a fence sitter and I was ready jump in sight unseen. But from talking to our guide and the materials he sent me, I was able to talk numbers with my husband. The biggest factor for him was the number of points it is to stay in a DVC resort today will be the same in 38 or 50 years. But he wouldn't purchase sight unseen, he had to wait until we went again in Nov 03 and took the tour. Because of this wait, we ended up paying more. Also, we opted to buy SSR because of the 50 years and the ease of disney financing. Just make sure you and DH bring your driver's license and a credit card to your tour, because you'll need them if you decide to buy and finance through disney. So I would suggest you call DVC and start working with a guide. They'll even set up your tour before you leave home. By the way, there is no pressure to buy. Your DVC guide will NOT call you at home and bug you. You'll have to contact him/her if you have questions. Guides are very accomodating and knowledgable. As a matter of fact I asked our guide the exact question you posted here...How do I convince my husband?

Good Luck, Brenda :earsboy:

I didn't have to convince DH. He wanted to do it as much as I did. We just ran the numbers after staying in a regular hotel room at Wilderness Lodge. We knew what we spent on that trip, and then looked at the total of what our initial 230 point contract would cost. It didn't take us long to figure out that we could have paid for it in a couple of trips! That didn't include maintenance, but we knew that too.

I wonder if we can tour the Boardwalk Villas, even though they're sold out ????

The preview center as been closed at BWV. I do not think that you can tour there anymore.
