Don't have a car - where is nearest grocery store and how much would it cost for a taxi? Just need basics like soft drinks for in the room, snacks etc. Nothing too fancy. HRH has a fridge in it doesn't it? Is it for use with your own drinks or just with the ones that are provide (at inflated prices!!)

Have you looked into a towncar transfer to the resort? several companys will give you a 20 - 30 min grocery stop at no extra charge. :) Also, the grocery stores cary small coolers.

I am a big fan of the grocery stop. No, the HRH does not have refrigerators--just the mini bar one. Rules about putting your stuff in there are posted on top of the fridge (DON"T DO IT). I had a pint of milk that I stored in the fridge, however and it was not discarded, nor was I charged a fee as indicated in the rules.

i have this problem most of the time when i travel because i do not drive but after getting tips on these boards a few years ago, i will now always ship food to myself. it really worked out for us. i just carefully packed a box up and weighed it. went to ups.com to find out what date to ship to have it arrive when i do and made sure it was labeled appropriately. i ended having to ship only 4-5 days before our trip and i sent a case of juice boxes, mini water bottles, cereal, chips, cookies, candy, napkins and such, granola bars, fruit cups, peanut butter & jelly, bread, you name it and i sent it. to keep the bread fresh and squish free, i took out of the package and packed in a tupperware container and then wraped the container in cling wrap and several plastic bags. it was great not to have to deal with getting the kids out in the morning for breakfast and when we returned from the pool, the kids would make sandwiches and grab snacks from the room. i bought milk at the hotel (at RPR it was at the orchid lounge) bottled in 16oz containers and we just grabbed one everyday for breakfast. it also allowed me to save money and have snacks on hand whenever the kids wanted. all in all, it cost me $30 for the food and $15 to ship and the bell staff brought it to my room on my arrival.

i use town car service to get to universal hotel and take advantage of the free 30 minute grocery stop.

i use the one at the end of kirkman or universal blvd. there is a publix in the shopping strip and cheaper prices than in chicago.

of course, many places are cheaper than chicago.

I usually take advantage of the Walgreens on the corner of Kirkman and Vineland. We've been using that particular store ever since our first trip in 1999 when we stayed at the Radisson. If I have a car I go to Publix on Kirkman.

We took advantage of the town car also. It's not that much more than the shuttles and they pick you up immediately (no waiting for the shuttle) and the grocery store stop. Just remember, depending on how long you are staying and the ages of your party.

We had three teenagers and only stayed 5 nights. We picked up soda, water chips, all kinds of stuff. We didn't use that much. We were out of the hotel ALOT of the time. We would take a bottle of water with in the morning, and head out. We were out for the day. We ended up taking bottles of water back on the plane with us.

Thanks for the replies. Think i will get a taxi on the first evening and go over to a Wal-Mart or Publix, buy a cool box and fill it with ice. Leave cool box at end of holiday. :thumbsup2
