Hello All

My DH & I have a last minute budget trip planned for just two weeks time. We are staying at Pop Century - hooray for the AP rate!! It is the first time ever we will not have a rental car - we plan to use the Disney transport (which we have never used before) and we are looking forward to it as something different on this trip.

Now, finally getting round to my question, how could we get to Universal from Pop Century? Has anyone done this without a car? How much, roughly, would the taxi fare be? We are thinking of Mears as this would probably be cheapest - how awful would this be - has anyone done it? A towncar or limo would be out as we are just two adults & cost is a big consideration!!

Thanks for any advice,
Claire:wave:

Your basic options:

Mears - 13 per person round trip
Taxi - 30 one-way
Towncar - 70 r/t

I have done the Mears shuttle from the All-Stars and they were not that bad. Kinda made me paranoid that we would miss the last bus of the night, but we made it there with more than enough time. You just have to move on their schedule, not your own. No browsing or spending time in City Walk after the parks close. We took the first and last shuttles of the day and were able to get to the parks fine.It was nice not to drive and you could nap on the ride home. They sent the big tour bus with the comfy seats, but this was in the summer and the busses were pretty full. Not sure how they handle the offseason. You just call the night before and pick what times you want. There should be a direct line to them in the lobby of the hotel. You may have to buy the tickets beforehand. We got ours at the airport since we used Mears to get to/from that year as well. For only 2 people, they are cheapest by far and if you don't mind waiting in lines, you will be fine

Thanks for the helpful response ktglads - it looks like Mears will certainly be the way to go to fit in with our budget! We will use them to & from the airport too I think.
Thanks,

In may 2003 I stayed at the Coronado Springs resort. I used mears two days to go to Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure.
On both days I had a pick up time at 8.15am. Both days there didn't come a tour bus, there didn't come a van, but there was a town car!!! I was traveling solo. The first time the town car took me alone at the Coronado Springs and took a family at the Carribean Beach. Dropped that family at at Discovery Cove and took me alone to Universal. The second morning the towncar took me and one family also staying at the Coronado Springs. Dropped that family at Seaworld and again took me alone to Universal.
Both days I had to call while at Universal about one hour before I wanted to take the shuttle back to Disney. Both times I was transported back in a van.
When I used Mears to go from/to the Airport they had a big bus.

You don't need to go to the lobby. Just use the telephone in your room and dial the 0. You get a Disney opperator. You ask that you want to be connected to Mears shuttle service and they will do it for you. This will cost you nothing!

You don't need to have tickets in hand. You can just pay the driver for the roundtrip tickets to Universal. At the airport you need to go to the counter to buy tickets anyway.
