So I am planning to go in May to Disney, but I haven't quite booked the hotel yet. I bought my ticket last nite to keep the price down. When I book the resort, how do I arrange for the Disney transportation from the airport? Is there an extra cost for this? I will only need to get transportation to Disney - after my Disney stay I am moving to a hotel for a conference which will get me back to the airport. Not planning to get Dining plan. I have either stayed off property or drove to Disney in the past so I haven't done the transportation before.

If you're staying on-site at Disney, you'll take Magical Express. You can book it at the same time as you book your hotel, if you already have your flight. Easy-peasy, and there's no charge. It's included in your room prices.

Oh, so I should wait until I get the flight to book the hotel or can I book the magical express later?

You can add it later. I'd book now, since there are some promos ending this week. Sorry, I read "got my ticket" as plane ticket... Park ticket makes so much more sense in light of the price increases.

Also, I'd book that plane ticket sooner rather than later, if you get too close it's going to get very expensive!

I would book hotel now to lock it in. There is already a lot of places with little to no availability in May, at least the week we are going. You can give your flight info by calling or I think there is even an online form to fill out.

My employer will pay for the airfare so I am not worried about that cost. I am adding vacation to continuing education conference. :)

I need to wait one more week to book hotel so it will go on next month CC bill.

ME is only MCO to WDW and back. If your convention is at a non WDW hotel, ME won't cover that transfer. You can use a taxi, and some hotels offer a shuttle...but about then- to me- a rental car starts to look like a solid option. Whenever you change hotel rooms your stuff is in limbo from checkout (11am) to check-in (3-4pm). If we have a car, we just drop all but chocolate/perishables in the trunk. (Some meds/toiletries are perishable in heat! not just food.) There are taxis regularly at all WDW hotels. Some hotels offer shuttles, but it can be a long wait between shuttles.

You only need to pay one night when booking if doing a room only reservation and $200 if doing a package, the rest would be due later, if that helps at all.

Apologies if this has already been said, but...

I always book my WDW hotel reservation (room only) as soon as I know my dates (and the prices for the year have been set). I call WDW to book; they always ask me if I want DME transport from/to the airport, and I tell them YES, but I don't have flights yet. No problem. They put me down for DME, then when I have my flights set (months later), I call back and talk to a CM who takes my flight info and adds it to my reservation. As soon as you have an on-site room res, you can reserve DME, then give them flight info (much) later.

Great info! I hadn't thought things through that way and have always waited until I've booked my flight. Thanks

Pretty sure OP said they only need ME one way. You can absolutely do that. You don't have to get two way. Then taxi from Disney resort to off property and hotel shuttle back to airport.

Note - you can book ME without flights as someone else said and update them later. However, make sure you call Disney and give them the flight info AT LEAST 10 days out if you want DME to pick up your bags. Less than 10 days and you may not get the baggage tags in time. you can still have them get your bags, but you have to pick them up and give them to DME or give them your baggage claim stubs and trust in fate and a watchful Disney eye.

Not in limbo bell services will hold it for you and they even have a fridge for perishable items.

You can book Magic Express later. There's no need to wait to book either the hotel or the room. You can't book ME without the hotel confirmation number and flight into.
