Getting free dining with an AP?

My DGF and I are looking at doing WDW during the FD promotion in Sept. She's a foodie and would absolutely LOVE to have free dining, but the problem is that I have an AP (she doesn't). From what I understand, everyone in the same room has to have the same package, and to get free dining you need to book a package with park tickets. Is this correct, or am I missing something?

TIA! :)

That is correct. You will have to get a ticket for yourself in order to get FD. What you can do is book the minimum 2 day ticket for both of you, upgrade her ticket to the amount of days she needs once you enter the park, and just hold onto your 2 day ticket for a future trip or to use towards the renewal of your AP.

My DBF and I just made our reservations at WL and we are Florida Residents as well as AP. We did have to purchase a two Magic Your Way base tickets in order to recieve the FDP, since that worked out to be a better deal than the room discount. However, when you are ready to renew your AP you can use the cash amount of your ticket toward the purchase price of your pass for the next year. So in other words, hold onto the ticket and cash them in when you are ready to renew your pass.

Thanks for the info and the quick replies! We're coming from Canada, and this is the first (and unfortunately will probably be the last) year that I've been able to get an annual pass for WDW, at least for the foreseeable future. I live much closer to DL and usually go there, but my DGF wants to go for the food, and who am I to argue! If I can use the 2-day pass at DL after my AP expires (which I think I can), then it still might be worth it. It's just one more excuse to sneak in a trip! Thanks again! :goodvibes
