getting fit for your trip - a place to share & ramble

Went to Chadstone today and resisted Baskin Robbins and Mrs Fields!

Good job! I have so much trouble with temptation :thumbsup2

just got hit in the side of the face with a rugby ball by a yr 7 kid with no dirction, possible tooth loose, just as well it wasn't the side of the dry socket..I hate my life...:offtopic:

Did you punch him? I would have punched him

So, I think this was an omen.............

I am one of these people that need direction and dsicipline when it comes to food:rolleyes1

My moblie rings today and it was Tony Ferguson letting me know they have a special on and new things on the menu and it is a bit more flexible. Now I have done TF previously and lost around 12 kilos. All was going swimmingly well when I had to have surgery to have my gall bladder removed. A simple keyhole procedure, or so I thought. I have an auto immune disease called Lupus and it decided that things were not going to be so simple!!! Instead of having a week off work, I ended up back in hospital with a total of 6 weeks off work:scared1: AND all this was just weeks before we went to America for a month.....................

Anyhow, I am going back to TF. I know it works for me and I am not one to spend money on anything that I am not going to get value out of ( that's why I have an annual pass for the impending trip:thumbsup2 )

I know there are people out there that say it doesn't do you any good or you put on loads of weight when you stop, but I never did get the chance to test it for myself last time due to the surgery.

I am a very determined person and have loads of will power, but just need the structure to follow and motivation to keep doing what I am doing.

So, I am going to give it another go and strive to get to goal before we go............

I will keep you all posted ( if that's ok ) and I am hoping to make this a lifestyle change.

Hope you all are having success:goodvibes

Oh and Karen, I feel your pain re the tooth............ouch:eek: I do hope you are feeling better.:flower3:

Sorry to hear about your tooth - again Karen!! Hope you feel better soon.
Well, I did my walk this morning and I'm looking forward to a beach walk tomorrow.
Had a lovely chicken salad for lunch and corned meat and veges for dinner! Then came dessert! My dad makes a mean dessert!! Not good when I'm watching what I eat!! Oh well, tomorrow is another day!!
Well done everyone for today. :

Today I spent 20 mins on the vibration machine and walked now to keep it up for the rest of the week.

TF is good, it gives a kickstart, I did it and lost about 15kg (started at 105kg) and it gave me the confidence I needed at the start :)

Good luck with the program.

I just finished my second walk for today!

I'm feeling really good and my jeans already feel better, i'm not as bloated which I am loving, one less jelly roll over my jeans

I am about 7 pages behind but thought I'd jump on and try and catch up later.

Hi I'm Bee and my natural state is lazy. I actually eat pretty healthily, just a little too much and I don't move enough.

I started the year well, got myself up to running 5 days a week and watching portion sizes etc. But then in march my arthritis flared up so I couldn't run and being the comfort eater I am started eating too much rubbish to make me feel better (and here's the kicker, fat and sugar actually make my arthritis worse so that is screwed logic there). So I have now put most of the weight I lost back on :sad2:

As of yesterday though I'm getting back on track, I still can't run because my arthritis is sucky but I can walk so for now my aim is to walk the dog 30mins every day, watch what I eat (I am tracking through sparkpeople.com which worked well for me earlier this year) and we'll see how we go.

I have about 30kgs to lose to be a healthy BMI but right now I'd be ecstatic with 20 - not expecting to be there by the time we go on the trip but hoping to be well on the way to it and have good habits embedded so I don't completely lose the plot.

For me, planning a vacation (and especially my favorite one, WDW) is a great motivator to lose weight and start getting some walking in in preperation for the incredible amount of walking a full day at the parks requires. I have just lost 36 pounds, and have 134 days to lose more before the trip. Having a goal is such a great motivator! I have RA to deal with in addition, which makes exercise a challenge most of the time, and even walking can be difficult. I have joined the YMCA to start swimming (easy on the joints), and am reading all of these helpful boards for tips on the best shoes, where to find healthy food in the parks, and so much more. Thanks to everyone for sharing and for all of your ideas. Good luck to all, and have a wonderful trip!

It's great seeing so many people on here having a go!

Even just changing the way you eat can make a massive difference but I think exercise just adds a whole other dimension, and once you see results it makes it easier to keep going.

At the moment (and I know it won't keep going at this rate) I feel like i'm shrinking, my clothes fit a little better, and I feel like I need to get out and move (easier when it's not raining).
We have a great walking track here (new estate) and we have a greyhound who needs to get out and walk or you know about it
It's also good because he's massive and i'm not scared to walk at night with him  as most people poo their pants when they see him.
Just about to have breakfast then head out for a walk before I head to the osteo, it's a nice day here.

You poor thing, not fair! :sad2: thank goodness it didn't hit the dry socket side. Fingers crossed the tooth is not loose.

I don't suppose the kid was your dentists son? if so, I'd be switching to a new dentist!! ;)

i love that we're all on here, giving this a go!!

whether you struggle (as i do) or are hugely motivated, everyone is coming on here and giving it a real try.

it's funny that i actually lost more weight on the trip last year in the 3 weeks we were in the states than i did in the lead up to the trip, purely from all the hundreds of kilometres of walking we did.

i would have kept it up when we get back, however my stupid illness & subsequent surgery put that all on the back burner, and the weight has crept back up...

now i'm hoping that the next few days will be good to me. carlo is going down to NSW to visit his family for a wedding for wed/thurs/fri/sat so i will be home alone... and rather than indulging in chick flick sessions on the couch and doing my own thing, i think i'm going to use the opportunity to get really sweaty cleaning the house from top to bottom, putting on a face mask and just making the house shine... all that house work should work off some of the calories, and then i can go hard on the bike... i don't know about the rest of you, but i tend to not go as hard on the exercise when he's there watching me cause i feel all frumpy going red in the face and sweating like a pig in front of him... is that silly? it is, isn't it?? but without him there, i plan to exercise like a maniac :)

I do the exact same thing :thumbsup2

DH has lost 2.2 kg on his lettuce and chicken no fun diet...only 5 to go..me i need to drop 4-5 to feel good .....but having crap food isnt helping:rolleyes1

now must clean house etc..more calories to burn before disney:hourglass

I dont know what is wrong with my family - I made a cake on Saturday - chocolate with buttercream frosting - was very nice - but there is still more than a quarter left :confused3

I live with 3 teenagers - :confused3 If they dont eat it this afternoon its going to have to go in the bin !

I swear I throw more food in the bin than what we eat, good and bad stuff  oh and our dog eats plenty of leftovers too !

Anyone want some cake?

well, i'm in the dog house, diet wise.

work put on a morning tea for me this morning (belatedly) for my birthday.

lots of chips and crackers and party pies and dips and chocolate cake.

oy.

i managed to get away with a few rice crackers and some basil dip and some apple slices, but jeez. how do you turn down that kind of generosity on a daily basis karen??

the hormones and the PCOS mean that if i look at food the wrong way, i put on weight. i have to be really careful eating high GI foods otherwise i balloon up in no time.

you wouldn't think it but a few years ago, i was a healthy size 14-16 (i'm 5'10.5" so that's pretty much skin & bones on me) .... now, getting back to a size 14-16 seems like a pipe dream .

stupid hormones and their love for making me fat :(

i keep telling them...

"Ladies, you are chronic feeders and are killing me, when you find me in the corner having slipped into a diabetic coma you'll all be sorry!"

then they try baking gluten, dairy free cakes.....OIIIII!why bother???

keep the faith....just say no, and if that doesnt work....insult them!:rotfl:

We throw heaps of food out too. That's why I hate buying fruit and vegies, they always seem to go off before I can eat them.

Bread and milk are just as bad in our house too :confused3

i am trying to do housework, but keep coming back here to chat....

I have bathrooms to clean, they wont clean themselves....popcorn::

and dog to drown, i mean wash (she threw up the dental floss she ate this morning on my foot)..nasty.

:snooty:
we pirate tightrope walkers need to clean

Oh I'm a bit late to the thread but can I join? I'm Marian, I've got to try and shift some weight before my brothers marriage to the teeniest Chinese lady you've ever seen in early August! :scared1: I really don't want to look like the Heffalump beside her.

I bulk muscle as I have elevated testosterone levels and an over active ovary that throws up giant cysts every month that burst. I've been waiting for over three years to have the ovary burnt off as I don't need it anymore as I have two very active 4.5 year old boys. I love rowing and trail running and I do kettlebells (not too much tho as I really bulk muscle) but I only get about three to four times a week I can work out without the kids. Most people don't believe how heavy I am and I've been dragged onto scales to prove it, but I feel it and I don't like it.

My GP has agreed to me doing Weight Watchers to see if she can prove to the specialist that my ovary is holding a lot of my weight on. I'm tall like Alicia but the smallest I've got down to is a size 12 waist, 13 hips and and 18DD ****s - think a breadstick with a couple of satsuma mandarins stuck on it. :rotfl::rotfl: So far I've lost 2.4kgs, which is three weigh-ins. I'm trying to avoid carbs as much as possible as they pack on the weight with me and I get sluggy and want to sleep.
