I will be a first time cruiser and will be sailing in 06/09(yes, I am one of THOSE Mom's who won't take kids out of school for vacation) with good reason as my DD15 now then DD16 will be in her junior year of high school in a hghly competetive heavy workload IB program. We are fortunate though in that the last day of school that year will be 6/4 we are sailing 6/6. Most schools in other regions will still be in session so it could be worse. Anyway, I wonder if anyone else has become as fitness obsessed as I have. I have a good 65 pounds to lose between now and then and have been going to the YMCA 5-6 days/wk for about 2 months now and my motivation has been getting a bathing suit body for the cruise. Whenever I feel discouraged or feel like quitting, I pop in the vacation planning DVD or the taped DCL special from the travel channel and that gets me back on track. My feeling is that I don't want to spend $6000 on a cruise(the price of 4 of us at a cat 12 rate believe it or not! no airfare included) not to enjoy it! Anyone else on the slim-down for cruise train? Myabe we can keep each other motivated and celebrate each other's successes. If I can figure out how to use any of these tickers, I can add a time til cruise ticker and one for pounds to go. I am very technically challenged so not sure how to figure that piece out.

hiya
im trying to get fit for our holiday and cruise, i'm not really on a diet cos i dont have the willpower for them, but i am trying to get fitter (so half there!!).
as for the tickers. click on mine, it'll take you to the site you get them from, you then choose which one you want and put your info in, it'll give you a code that you need to copy and put into your signature (click on user CP at the top of the screen, then go to edit signature, then copy the code into it)
hope that makes sense!!

Keep up the good work! I'm sure you will feel and look wonderful by June. I am a "life time" WW member and have always struggled with my weight.

Excersising is a great way to get in shape. We will be cruising on the Magic on Feb. 16th. So not much time left for me to get in shape :) but I have been extra careful these last few weeks (although it is very difficult to be good :rotfl: )

Good luck to you it seems like your on the right track!

I think I'm on the same cruise as you -6/6/09 Magic sailing to St. Marteen. It will be me, DH, and DS9 ( by the time of cruise). I'm also trying to lose about 25-30 lbs betwwn now and the cruise.

Tell your daughter to keep up the good work. I completed the IB program in high school and I can tell you, it definitely had its benefits. :thumbsup2

Also, congrats on the fitness goals! Sometimes, the biggest challenge is just getting out there and doing it.

I would love to do this with you! My cruise is 6/20/09 because of school...just like you. And I would love to lose about 30-40 pounds! I can't believe I just put that in print for everyone to see. :scared1:

But I really think this is what I need a partner to check on each other during the week. All my friends around here are very small ladies....who just don't seem to understand the dieting thing. So, yes...let start a train!

I definitely plan to shed a couple of extra pounds before my 5/03 Western, but I lost about 35 pounds two years ago which I have kept off for the most part (give or take 5 pounds in either direction) since then. Here are my tips:

1. WORK OUT!! Even when you don't feel like it. And if you don't feel like it, get yourself a new workout outfit and get excited to wear it!

2. Think about what you put in your mouth. Is that bag of potato chips or that donught going to be worth the blown hours/calories you spent in the gym? Or will a bunch of grapes or a handful of cheese flavored mini rice cakes (which taste surprisingly like cheese doodles) suffice?

3. Drink water! A lot of times, it will take the edge off your hunger. If you feel hungry, drink a big glass of water before you reach for food.

4. Fill up on veggies at mealtime.

Good luck, everyone! I'll be hangin' in there with you.

I keep hoping to be in better shape before every cruise or trip to WDW! I have just over 5 weeks until my next cruise (non-Disney), and it's unlikely I'll be mistaken for a Victoria's Secret swimsuit model! :lmao:

3. Drink water! A lot of times, it will take the edge off your hunger. If you feel hungry, drink a big glass of water before you reach for food.

I second this. And to add to it, I'd say, drink ONLY water. Other beverages are a waste of calories.

Other tips:

To stave off hunger and get more water, try chicken bouillon. Add it to hot water and it's like soup with a lot fewer calories. However, make sure you get a low sodium type. (Note: this should not Replace meals. You can't keep off weight by starving yourself.)

That brings me to my next point: watch your sodium intake! Salt makes you retain water. While it won't necessarily make you gain more real weight it will make you retain more water weight. This will make it appear as if you're not losing the kind of weight you want to, which can become depressing.

Count your calories (intake and burned). Set a goal. Calories add up quicker than you think. I've used this website in the past: http://www.calorie-count.com/ You need to register, but it's free. It has a huge catalog foods with their calorie and other nutritional info. You can even add new products if they aren't there. It logs everthing for you, from daily nutritional info, to weight loss, to daily calories burned. You can even set goals and they will track them for you.

Remember, the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. You can do this by: eating less, working out more, or Both!

I will move this over to the WISH forum. I really feel it will be more beneficial there..:)

DH and I are trying to lose weight b4 our 11/8/08 cruise.

We are excercising 3-4 times/week, and are trying to eat healthier. We are keeping track of calories and such on caloriecount dot about dot com. It has really helped us to know what foods are good and which are not. It is free btw.

When we went to WDW in Jan 06, DH and I came home with an extra 10 lbs and DD (10 yrs and 50lbs) came home at 55lbs!!! :scared1: 10% weight gain. Our other DD (6yrs, 40lbs) was 43lbs. We had the food plan, which was wonderful, but oooohhhh did we eat way to much!!!

Got to make sure we are in better shape b4 the cruise. Hopefully we will make better choices.

I too am wanting to lose some weight for our cruise. but I am not seeing it happen as I don't eat all that well. I have seen a nutritionist and am working on things, but I do have a medical condition that I have to work with.

I also signed up with a club and paid for some personal training. My trainer said you can do lots of aerobics and still not lose the weight. The key is to add in weight training. Muscle burns more calories than fat. So don't forget to work with weights in addition to your aerobic workouts.

Yup, I am looking forward to being smaller for our cruise, too! We are going on the Podcast Cruise in May 09 and I have about 25 pounds to lose (it was more than 30, so I am already going in the right direction!).

I am doing the Couch to 5K running program....which I LOVE! There are several DISers here on the WISH board who are doing the program. For anyone interested, here is the link...

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I am also being very careful with my food...watching carbs, fats, and calories. I am hoping to have my cruising bod ready for THIS summer and then maintain until the cruise NEXT spring!

And to the OP--if you are paying 6K for 4 people in a category 12...contact DUL (www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com). These are the same guys that own and operated the DIS. You will get the best rates and a great shipboard credit. You can transfer your existing reservation to them.

Hi...I am also trying to get fit for our first Disney Cruise. I would like to lose 20-25 pounds. This will be our first Disney cruise. We cruise 11/08/08. It will be me, my husband and 2 daughters ages 7 and 5.

As for the tickers...I am proud of my self, I finally figured out how to do it since I am computer limited!

Hi there! I am in the same boat as you guys, I am going on a cruise in December and I really want to lose some weight before hand. I figure I have just over 9 months to go so I am going to try and lose 5-10 pounds a month. It will probably be closer to 5 though I think. I have been using my elliptical trainer and doing some workout videos. Once spring gets here and all the snow and ice disappears I plan on doing the Couch to 5K plan. Too cold outside to start it up now.

My biggest downfall is my diet. I am just not that healthy an eater. I love pizza and eat it way too often! On my good days I will have bran flakes and a cup of milk for breakfast, a turkey sandwich with loads of veggies for lunch and chicken breast and veggies for dinner. It is hard for me to keep to this though as I will always crave something like pizza or pasta and I have such bad willpower. :guilty:

I'm on that train, sort of. I've been working out off and on since I was old enough to sign a gym membership contract. Unfortunately, the past year and a half has been an "off" time. I would like to lose about 10 pounds but more important to me is getting back my muscle tone. I'll never have a swim suit body, but I know and have experienced the benefits of being in good physical shape.

I had to give up my gym membership last year but have since picked up a treadmill from the Freecycle board. Dh found, on the side of the road, a universal weight machine minus the weights. Now that the day light is longer, he said he'd take walks with me.

Big motivator for me - looking at pictures of myself when I was "in shape" and pictures of me when I wasn't. Another motivator - I am pain-free when I am in training, no back problems.

I agree with the person who said to ask yourself whether what you're about to put in your mouth will worth the setback. At one point, after a baby, I had 30 pounds to loose, and I lost it all. No pills, no diets, just working out and watching what I ate. Losing weight is not easy when you very near 40. I was really focused. Besides working out, every time I wanted to eat something high calorie and unnecessary, just because it would taste good or make me feel better, I asked myself, will I feel better eating this or abstaining from eating this.

You're preachin' the gospel here, sister! Diets that eliminate entire food groups seem to forget that simple fact. You can basically eat whatever you want, but some choices are wiser than others. It's all about calories out exceeding calories in.

Here's a good recipe for your pasta craving...saute a whole mess of veggies, I use mushrooms, onions, fresh diced garlic, diced zucchini, red peppers, and sun dried tomatos. Use olive oil flavored cooking spray to saute and when the veggies start getting soft, add about 1/3 of a can of diced tomatoes. Season as you like, I use basil, parsley, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. When this is warmed through, toss with 1 serving of Ronzoni Healthy Harvest whole grain pasta cooked according to package directions and sprinkle with a little parmesan cheese. The pasta itself is only 180 calories, so the whole meal ends up being around 300 calories! It's not as "saucy" as using a spaghetti sauce, but it's just as tasty and satisfying. That is one of my favorite meals when on weight loss mode! :)

I'll have to try that sometime, thanks!
