Getting disability because its too hot for you to work because your pregnant, really?

Ok so I have a sister-in-law that is 22-years-old and has started working at a Amazon warehouse. This is like her 8th or 9th job so far. She hates to have to work and is, well I will say it, very lazy. She has worked there about two weeks so far and has now found out that she if pregnant. She went today to get signed up for her Medicaid and Wic. The nurse told her that the doctor might be able to take her out work and put on disability because it would be to hot for her to work there. :sad2: Do what?

She is eligible for medicaid and WIC even though she is working? She mustn't be making very much. And I guess she has no benefits if she is getting medicaid?

I didn't say anything about abstaining because she started a new job... your argument is invalid.

Secondly, it was her decision to get pregnant... it wasn't mine and last time I checked, it wasn't yours... so what exactly is your point? Stop trying to insert words into my mouth. And a big :thumbsup2 to you both.

My aunt is the same way. She also filed several sexual harassment claims against different employers before she went on full disability. But she didn't have enough hours on file with Social Security to get the extra money for her two kids. She was not happy about that!
But then she got a grant to go to school. She earned an Associate's in psychology through University of Phoenix and now works at a state hospital of some sort. I'm sure she is going to get tired of it soon especially as she works nights but they told her she will not qualify for disability again. To bad, so sad!

You don't know that she made a conscious decision to get pregnant. You make it sound like she said "oh, I just started a new job, but I think I'll get pregnant." My argument was with your choice of words... that it was a "decision".

Well if healthy people are fainting from the heat in the warehouses I guess I could see the issue working there while pregnant.

Meh. The whole fainting thing was about the PA warehouse, which was a building that was already there as far as I know. Amazon leased it, they didn't make it.

It's not the warehouse in GA that's been causing problems for some people. And the GA one is the one the OP's sister is in.

Different states have different deals, but I know that DH's benefits didn't kick in at a mere 2 weeks of employment, and when I worked there in '99 they didn't then, either. But maybe it's different at the fulfillment center in GA.

She must be considered "working poor":confused3

Cutoff for WIC with a family size of 1 is around $20,000. It's not surprising to me that a warehouse job would pay around 10 bucks an hour or less without benefits.

I actually live near the one in PA and know a lot of people that work there. That place is a mess! I'm sure the one in GA is no better. It can't be any cooler in GA than PA! I'm not saying the woman is right to be trying to get disability from a job she's only held for a few weeks (and if I know Amazon, she's a temp with no benefits anyway, so she won't get a cent), but I am saying that you'd be surprised at the state of the workers in the Amazon warehouses. The one here had an ambulance parked out front 24/7 because there were so many calls for heat stroke. The locals weren't happy about having one of their ambulances constantly in use at the warehouse and not available for other calls! They do have A/C there this summer, but it is still at least 80 in there most of the time and most of the jobs involve walking around and up and down stairs in that heat for 8 hours. Not the best situation for a pregnant woman. (again, I don't think she should get WIC or anything else, I think she should get a job somewhere like Target or the grocery store where it is air conditioned!)
