My original post stated that we DID NOT have our ID with us at Disney that day. I rarely carry ID with me into an amusement park. I do not need to show ID when using my credit cards because I either pay with cash (don't require ID to use greenbacks) or my Disney resort card.
I was posting to let others know that it can happen to them. And to let them be aware. I am sure that I am not the only one who doesn't carry identification all of the time. You obviously have never tried to get a new license in PA. You must produce a picture ID, as well as another form of ID to get a new license. Well, unless you have a passport, you rarely have a 2nd photo identification. Further, try getting on an airplane after your trip, stating that you lost your ID. For these reasons, I don't carry my DL. I do not need to be lectured on the safety issues of carrying ID.
I understand the need to produce ID to purchase alcohol, however, if the person looks over 21, and by a lot, I think it is insulting to ask for ID. Gray haired and balding is typically not someone that is under 21. It is not flattering at all.
Ok, I don't know if you are aware of this or not but I'm going to tell you anyway.
The federal agencies , such as the FDA, have stings that go on for places who sell alcohol , cigarrettes, etc etc. These people come into the establishments
without warning , they don't tell you who they are. They act like regular customers , buy the merchandise and they go out. I know that because it happened to me, an FDA agent came to my place of employment and tried to buy a pack of cigarettes.
Weeks later I found out through my employer that they got me when they came in , they were asking me if I remembered anything unusual, I said no. Out of five of our stores that they checked , my store was the only one that passed, I asked the guy for ID , that's what saved me. The way my employer found out that they were there is when they received a letter from the FDA and gave exact dates and description of the person. The other people got a fine and lost their jobs. And you want to know something? I'm from PA too, and I do not know if you know that in PA anyone who looks 27 and under has to be ID'd for cigarettes, it's not companies policies, it's the law. You can get fined and loose your job for not ID'ing someone who looks 27 or younger eventhough the lawful age is 18 for cigarettes, that;s what happened to my other co-workers.
Bottom line is , those CM's are doing their job, you choose not to carry your DL because you are afraid of losing it, one of the consequences is that you may have difficulties obtaining something like in this case an alcoholic drink.
Truthfully, I always take DL with me because in the back of all my credit cards I have the "SEE ID" on the signature, this way if I ever lose my cc, whoever tries to use it, has to provide ID also. I get all my stuff inside of a small ziploc bag and put it in the zipped compartment of my fanny pack , along with my park hoppers.
When they ask me for ID, I think that is a compliment, besides a safety issue for the employee. If the person doesn't have ID on them, then that's their problem.
You would be surprised how many people came into my store driving a car, try to buy cigarettes and when you ask for ID they say, I don't have my drivers license with me....how can you not have a DL with you if you are driving to the store?
