Getting carded at you wedding

Hi everyone

Did anyone's guests actually get carded when they asked for alcohol?

My planner says everyone should have IDs on them, but I know people will forget. Most of our friends are our age 25/ 26 and we don't get carded much (except for my one BM who got carded when we saw a rated R movie last weekend it was hilarious!).

At a disney wedding we went to (as guests), we saw a few people get carded. So, it's definitely a good idea to remind your guests to bring their ID

YES. Make sure that everyone takes their ID. My BIL who is 26 but looks 17 didn't take his ID to our wedding because he didn't think he would need it. Not even his mother vouching for him would let the Disney people serve him alcohol. He was pretty upset about the whole thing. So, everyone, bridal party included, must have their ID's just in case...

If that was someone in my bridal party getting carded and treated that badly I'd be demanding to speak to the highest person in charge or above, especially considering how much the bride and groom were spending for their special day.

My sister had her wedding hosted by her alma marter and the person from the hotel in charge of her wedding, who was still a student, made a few big mistakes in my book: he told her on arrival (with her wedding party in tow) she was late. She wasn't late. We were right on time considering we had stopped on the way from the church at her workplace (an assisted living community) to share in a piece of wedding cake and toast with the residents as well as take photos on the property. The other mistake he made was instead of asking for help from other staff he tried dragging the table with her wedding cake on it into the center of the room all by himself and nearly toppled it. Thank God her mother and a couple other people standing nearby were able to grab it in time. I was the one who was placed in charge of paying the bill at the end of the night and to this day I wish I had known about those incidents at the time because I would have made sure that kid got an F.

Anyways back to the whole "carding" business. I learned a very long time ago to always carry my ID on me because even now at the age of 32, I'm only a fingernail shy of 5" tall and when I'm completely clean shaven I pass for 12 or under. I've even been stopped by the police and asked why I wasn't in school.

I was MOH at my cousin's wedding last Nov and got carded when they were pouring drinks for the toast. (I am 28 and don't at all look under 21) The server was VERY rude and disruptive, as it was during the first dance, and I was trying to enjoy watching my cousin and her husband. My mom was holding my purse and seated several tables away, as we had jsut finished the introductions I had not had a chance to get my purse from her. I told the server to please skip me and pour the rest of the people at our table while I would get my ID. He refused and stated that he would not be able to come back to me, and refused to move on to pour the next person's drink. I was very clearly a part of the bridal party (big red and white BM gown on) and told him that he was being disruptive during a very important part of the reception, and that if he couldn't come back to me or move on to the next person, then to pour me the non-alcoholic because I was missing watching the first dance while discussing this with him. He also refused to do that.

Afterwards I told the wedding planner that I was not happy with the way he handled it. She didn't seem to get the point that I didn't care what kind of drink he poured me, and just wanted to watch the first dance without being harassed by the waitstaff. She also didn't seem to care at all, nor did she pr he apologize for his behaviour. We did write his name down and will specifically request that he NOT be serving at our reception. We will also be letting all our guests know ahead of time to have thier ID's with them / and handy.

I dont think disney would care as the price they would be fined is a lot more than any wedding they put on....Just make sure everyone has their ID....FL Law is very strict about fines...and disney isnt going to put their necks out their even if the bride forgets her ID....

On another note...the waiter that made a fuss about coming back around was way out of line....

Another warning of a possible issue. I had to renew my liscense a couple of days before my 21 birthday, so they kept the big red line that says Under 21 on it. I was accused on occasion of having a fake id. Even an expired military id, with the same birthdate, was not acceptable as backup proof. Just make sure your id says you are over 21, and no area says you are under 21, even if you passed that age.

Jen ~ I feel for your friend. I have been carded for an R rated movie at 26 too. At 22, I was asked if I was old enough to sit in the emergency row exit on an airplane. (I was already seated there.) You have to be 16 to sit there.

I was carded at a wedding once. At the time I was 22 - 3 years older than the bride who was getting served all night!

Yeah, have them bring their IDs. Better safe than sorry.

PrincessBride07, DH and I also look very young. I'm almost 28 and he's almost 30 and we still occasionally get carded not only for alcohol but lottery tickets (over 18 ). We were at a library last year and an older person with a telescope called out to us that they were having a special viewing for high school students. High school students! We just laugh about it but I can see how frustrating it must be for servers; it must be very hard to judge a person's age based on their looks.

Not that that excuses that rude waiter that harassed DVCGirl, of course!

i would take it..in HS a guy and I went out on a date and get this-- the waitress brought to our table one regular menu and one childs menu-- put the childs menu in front of me! What the crap!! haha-- i still get comments about my age. I would definitely have them take the IDs!

Once, at an open bar, my DF, who was 23, repeatedly asked for rum & coke. The bartender kept on giving him just coke and then he'd throw a cherry on top.

What the?!?!?!?

I finally made him ask what the deal was, and the bartender replied "Son, you wanna show me some ID?" I just laughed because honestly, he looked like he was 17.

I also got stuck with an "under 21" till I turned 25 because the dufus at the dmv decided even though it was only a week till my 21st bday I still needed an "under 21" hologram embedded in my dl when I renewed it after returning from college. I never got accused of it being fake because of the way the card was made it could only be done at the dmv and the birthdate is directly under it.

Jen, I looked at our paperwork and it says that any guest appearing to be under 30 will be carded, so I'd be sure to remind people to bring them just in case. Better to be safe than sorry. Otherwise, you'll have wasted a LOT of money on alcohol that no one can drink

That is true michelle, we really do spend a lot on booz. I say if your hanging w/ mom and dad, and dad's driving, why not include the younger crowd. They do it all the time in Italy.

I think after hearing some of these stories, the brides and grooms need to remember them as well. I would be really ticked if I wasn't allowed the Asti that specifically asked for at my wedding.
