Getting breakfast in your PJs?

please make sure you put on a belt like my grandfather does when he wears his dorm pants to the mall.

It's YOUR vacation...do What YOU feel comfortable doing as long as you're covered. Besides what's in good or bad taste is subjective, what are they going to do if you do wear your PJs? Write you a fashion citation? :lmao:

Enjoy your trip...and your PJs!

How is what I choose to wear effect anyone? Does it ruin your day? If you don't like it, don't look. I just don't understand. We are not talking about wearing something that can have a person arrested for indecent exposure, but a tasteful pair of jammies, pants/capris and t-shirt to pick up a cup of coffee and go back to our room.

What upsets me is that we live in such a judgmental society.

This entire thread is an example of the downward spiral of western civilization. People used to get dressed up for dinner, now they're going to the food court in their PJ's. Seriously, when did it become OK to go out in public in your pajamas?[/QUOTE]

Seriously, why wasn't it okay to begin with??

Oh, we do this at home sometimes, so it's no big deal for us! On our last trip at AKL, we decided to eat breakfast in bed, but didnt want to pay for room service. We woke up, put on our flip flips and walked down to the Mara, ordered food to go, and walked back to our room and relaxed with our breakfast. We were only wearing t-shirts & pajama bottoms/lounge pants (I might have had a hooded sweatshirt as well). I didn't notice anyone giving us any strange looks, but then again I wasn't looking for them. I really didn't care if others thought we looked strange because I knew we looked fine.

I wouldn't go to a TS place in my PJ's and I probably wouldn't sit in the food court in my PJ's, but to just walk down to the Mara, order food to go, & return back to our room-it was a non-issue. Anyone who thinks that's inappropriate needs to relax a bit. My hotel & if I want to walk around in my Mickey Mouse PJ's I should be able to. I'm not talking lingerie or anything! Just lounge pants & a t-shirt. It basically mimics regular shirt and pants anyways!

Why is this such a big deal it was a simple question?

Do what ever you feel is comfortable it is your vacation you paid for it and it is YOUR rest.

I guess people used to respect one another more; they used to consider others before themselves. They weren't all wrapped up about wearing what THEY wanted and they didn't flaunt a lack of regard for other people. I'll have to think about this and see if I can put it into words better tomorrow.

I really don't want to turn this into a flame war because I'm not passing judgement on people who wear pajamas in public. They're a product of their society and their society has become one where such behavior isn't only acceptable, but in many ways encouraged. I just think its very interesting how nobody ever would have done this 30 years ago, but now many people don't even give it a second thought.

I personally would not, but I would not leave my hotel room without a shower, either. It's just not something I'd do. Even if I wanted to run to the food court for something before my shower I'd certainly have to put on a bra (wouldn't leave the room without one of those either) and if I have to take off my shirt for that, I might as well get dressed in a t-shirt and shorts.

Now, I probably wouldn't care if you did it, although I might think, "poor girl is last in the shower this morning!"

Oh my goodness. WHO HAS TIME TO CARE??????????
Someone wants to go into the food court in a pair of p.j. pants.
I doubt I would notice. And if I did I would think long and hard about why I had nothing better to worry about.
:headache:

I agree with you about the change in society. My question is really why wearing PJs was disrespectful in the first place? I also understand tht respect isn't as valued in society today as it once was and I think that's sad. But I think that there are many more authentic ways to show respect than how one dresses for a hotel food court.

I don't want a flame war either - I really think its an interesting question

I said no and I still stand by that. I guess to me that while its not one of those things that is a huge deal, it is still a matter of concern to me that people (adults and kids) feel fine in wearing their pj's any old place. I think its a shame, some of the old style ways of dressing and acting in public were sort of nice in my view. People keep saying what does it matter, why do we care? The question was asked, some of us answered. I love it when a thread/question is posted, it gets answered and then the Laid Back Police come on and say "why do you care" or "this is so silly" What's silly? The thread you too are responding to?

I just think its a bit of nicety to wear real clothes. I see a lot of people saying pj's cover up as much and look as nice as sweats (or better). True. But a bra and underwear cover up as much and look about like a bikini. But how many of you would wear your bra and underwear to a pool in public? I guess there has to be a line somewhere.

If you feel comfortable to do this, I guess go for it. I'll still stick to what my mom would have done. Which is not wear your nightclothes (pj's, robe, nightgown) out of the door in public. My mom may have been a product of the fifties and she may have been stuffy by today's standards. But she had class and I'd rather be classy and stuffy than tacky. Sorry.

A lot of interesting views.

I still stand by my choice for me. No pjs. Why does it matter? 1. They are sold as pjs not "let's wear this out in public to look cute because I have Mickey on my butt." Cutsie pjs are for your family-your friends if you'd like-your lover-not in public. 2. Schools are not cracking down on teens wearing pjs to school -- and yes they do, I've seen it firsthand in my city. If adults thinks it's ok to wear them in public, then kids will too. 3. Where does it stop? I've watched teens/college-aged girls wear their pj short bottoms to the food court, the pool, the parks. Common decency - self-respect - and yes social obligation is part of living in a community together.

Grow up. Get dressed. If someone must show off something cutsie that has a really cool disney design - there's always the internet. A good example of things going too far for common decency!

As in life's decisions - we will have to agree to disagree - this is my opinion.

Sorry, but this is hands down the silliest thread I've ever read on the DIS. :upsidedow

Here's a story for you. Back when I was a TDS cast member, we would have monthly training meetings. Since it was Disney, there was always a theme for each meeting. One of our themes was a "pajama party." Everyone was encouraged to come to the mall in their pajamas (appropriate of course) where we had dinner at Pizzaria Uno and them our after hours training at the Disney Store.

So, if you want to wear you PJ's go ahead! A lot of people on this board seem to have a problem with it :confused3 but Disney doesn't.;)

If you look at some of the older pics of Disneyland when it first opened (sorry I'm on the west coast so I use DL as an example) you'd see men wearing suits and women walking around in dresses and high heels. No one does that anymore. We wear short, tees, sandals, etc. and don't give that a second thought.

People also used to dress up for air travel. I mean really dress up, with hats, gloves, heels, pearls and all.

I don't really see it as not showing respect. Things just change. And like I said earlier, some of the pj's today are just as cute and cover even more then some of the clothing out there.

I don't know. I'm not trying to argue. Really, I'm not. I just don't see it as being that big of a deal, and I certainly wouldn't take it as a sign of disrespect.

Yeah, my best friend's mom worked at Casual Corner. They used to have a pj day where all the sales associates wore their pj's(they had to be the ones from Casual Corner since really it was a marketing tool to sell pj's). It was a joke, a bit of a costume. And the women put on their makeup, brushed their hair and teeth and wore a bra under the pj's. I am betting than when you worked at the Disney Store, you didn't just roll out of bed that day and come on in to work in the pj's you had slept in for 8 hours. I am sorry, seeing sleepy, pj clad people who had five minutes to go get coffee at the food court but didn't have five minutes to put on clothes is not the same in my book!

I know, I am silly to persist, but this one is sort of drawing me in!

How fun!
My kids have PJ Day at school. They love it!

And one of the restaurants here in the area, actually hosted a PJ Sunday a few months ago. All kids who came to breakfast in their PJ's that day got a discounted meal. We couldn't go that day, but if our schedules had allowed, I would have.

Have any of you ever gotten up early and went to your resorts food court to get everyones breakfast in thier PJs. I mean decent PJs, not the one for my husband or anything. I am thinking about doing this in September and I just wonder if I would get any reactions around 6:30 in the morning?

Yes, I do this, but later than 6:30; I never gave it a 2nd thought. I wear lounge-wear type pjs and haven't noticed any looks of horror :rotfl2:

WELL SAID!! Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but to use the past as an argument for what is appropriate today is ludicrous. Scarlett O'Hara wouldn't have been caught dead at WDW without her hoop skirt - Should we all still be wearing those, too? (Plus, her underware was more conservative than the outfits any one of us would wear to the park in August).

For the record, my opinion is if you have to ask, you're probably going to worry too much about what others are thinking to feel comfortable. (On the other hand, maybe this entire debate has motivated you to lead the PJ revolution!)

Cheryl

I wore my PJs to the breakfast area in the lobby at a Homewood Suites earlier this year, but somehow heading to the resort food court in my PJs just doesn't seem the same. Maybe because it's a ways away, have to walk outside, tons of people around, etc. I wouldn't have a problem seeing you there in your PJs but I'm thinking I would throw on some clothes first before heading down there.

You aren't in a professional atmosphere. You are on vacation. I see no problem with it as long as you have on proper undergarments.
