Hi everyone,
I just thought I would post to update all you wonderful, caring people on my family after our accident. So many of you really were so kind and helpful after it happened and I just wanted to let you know we are finally heading towards getting back to our normal life.

For the past couple of months we have been to so many Dr's, had so many tests done, seen so many therapists, and physcologists. DH and I were put on Lexapro to help with panic attacks, and all the stress that followed the accident. That actually set us back with alot of side effects and such. Right now I am getting off the meds, slowly. I feel I am ready to be my normal self again. We have to go to physical therapy 3 times a week because of our back and neck injuries. We have herniated discs, buldging discs, soft tissue damage too. DH still has rocks under the skin in his wrist, but we recently found out he has glass in the bone! He will need to be operated on. DD has been seeing a social worker and her nightmares have finally stopped. She is also getting back to normal and isn't so fearful of the car. DH was out of work for 3months and we depleated our savings and were really struggling financially. He was told not to go back to work by the Dr. but we have no choice. He had to go back. It has been tough getting back on our feet but we are determined to not let this accident take any more control of our lives!! Personally, since I was the driver, I had the hardest time with driving and just being in a car. Now I am getting my confidence back and am doing so much better.

My family and I were really lucky that it wasn't much worse. We were also lucky to have great people working for us. Our insurance company and agent have been great and have really taken care of things for us on that end. Our Dr.'s have been wonderful, our DD school has been so supportive and helpful with her.

As far as all the legal stuff, we have filed a suit against all the parties involved(the driver, trucking company, etc..) The trucking insurance company has claimed 100% responsibility for the accident. Which is great news. The driver has received 3 tickets for driving while on a cell phone, reckless driving and I'm not sure what else. I just can't wait till that whole part of this is over. I'm not looking to get rich. I just really want those who were so wreckless to be held accountable for their actions. The truck had an inspection sticker that was 3 months past due!!! The driver was on a cell phone. He also never checked all the connections on the truck. While driving he admitted to knowing something wasn't right with the truck and felt it swaying behind him. He was doing 70+ mph!!! He never slowed down, he didn't get off the phone, he didn't pull over!!! It just makes me so mad!

I am also posting because there was another thread here about a really bad accident and the importance of wearing a seatbelt.
I just have to stress to always wear a seatbelt. Always put your kids in a car seat. Even if you are going down the block! Accidents can happen. No matter how near or far from home you are. I believe the other poster was close to home. We were only a mile from our house. My family and I all would have died if we weren't wearing our seatbelts.

I'm so glad that your family is starting to feel some sense of 'normal'. I keep you and your family in my thoughts often!

Glad things are getting better. Prayers for your family's continued recovery.

You've been through so much, many prayers that you and your family's recovery goes smoothly.

I was wondering how you and your family were doing. Glad to hear that things are slowly improving. Many good thoughts still being sent your way

I'm so glad you posted. I, too, was wondering how you were doing.

Good to hear you are getting some normalcy back into your lives.

Good to hear from you, Nikki, good to hear progress is being made, on all fronts. Hang in there, sounds like you are doing well, making that progress, even if a step at a time. Good wishes remain with you and your family along with prayers.

:grouphug: Glad to hear that you are all doing better. Prayers for continued improvement!

Glad you're getting back to normal.

I remember reading about your accident. (It's the only DIS story I've ever told DH.)

I hope you receive an appropriate settlement - pain, suffering, and lost wages, at least.

Good luck on the rest of your journey to recovery.

Good luck to you. I'm glad to hear you are all on the road to recovery!

I'm glad that things are improving. Continued prayers and :wizard: for you all.

 I'm new to the board and just want to had my hug. Very good friends were in a bad accident and I know what you mean about legal and financial stuff pilling up. His doctor also didn't want him to go back to work as well as the laywer but with no money coming in the morgage, light, and gas company think otherwise. Here is hoping 2006 is your year to shine. :sunny:
