Getting Around WDW Other Options?

Hi, I am a newbie, so appologise in advance if this has been asked before.

We are going to WDW in Sept and staying at the Beach Club Resort. We have a 2 year old DS (turning 2 in May) and were planning on using the Disney transport. He has zero tolerance with regards to waiting in lines.

After reading all the stories of wait times and the number of stops some of the buses seem to do, I am wondering what our other options are?

Can you catch Taxi's within WDW, like to and from other resorts or DTD? I can't seem to find this mentioned anywhere.

Obviously we can hire a car for the duration, which I have read is good for going to other resorts, DTD etc except MK, which is fine. It would also mean I can get to and from the Premiumn Outlets easily. Remember I am from Australia so shopping is important to me, we don't even have GAP here!

Thanks in advance for your advice,
Angela

Taxis are available but if you want to go shopping you're going to want to rent a car for at least a few days. If you're staying for around a week I'd rent it for the entire week. Price renting a car at the airport as well as renting it from Swan/Dolphin.

A child with zero tolerance for waiting in lines might not enjoy Disney. :rotfl2: A 10-15 minute wait even with a FP is common and attractions like Dumbo have low capacities and long lines unless you get there at park opening.

Thanks for the fast reply.

We plan on going early in the morning to MK and then will probably take turns with DH walking around with him whilst the other one waits in line IYKWIM. As long as there are things for him to look at he is ok. So waiting in lines at the rides will be ok as he can watch the ride and get excited. Waiting for a bus is another story.

Were planning a 7 night stay, so will look into the car option.

Cheers

Welcome to the DIS, Angela!

Lewisc makes some very good points..although I would think I flight from Sydney to Orlando would be a little longer wait than any attraction line at WDW!!!

Thee will be lines for EVERYTHING--not just buses--from attractions to food carts to meals. If you say he doesn't do lines very well, make sure you are coming at an off peak time!

Also, staying at the BC you can wheel him in a stroller to Epcot and the Studios rather than taking Disney transportation.

Enjoy!

Got to wonder, must be a very long flight from Australia - good luck!

FP's will help you out greatly w/attractions...however, WDW is all about waiting on line. Some of the most intolerable have been for the rest rooms.;)

Hi, thanks for all the replies. Don't worry I know all about the lines and what to expect there. With 2 of us, DH & I, we are able to take it in turns lining up for things like food, drinks, restrooms etc... so there will be no reason for DS to have to endure those lines. As for the rides, DS will be ok as he will be able to understand why we are in line.

We recently went to Wiggles World here in Australia and he had to line up for rides and was ok most of the time as he knew that the result was going to be a ride in the Big Red Car. Lining up for a bus is another story.

Yes, the flight is going to be long. 14hrs to LA and then LA- Orlando, not sure of the flying time involved for that one. We've already taken DS to Hawaii last year and thats a 9hr flight, he was fine as he is a good sleeper. We plan on doing a night flight out of Sydney so he will sleep most of the way.

Thanks for all the tips and info, this is a great board.
Take care,
Angela

Angela,

FYI: the flight time from LA to Orlando is about four and a half hours gate to gate.

There also are taxis available thoughout WDW if that is your choice. But I do agree with the others, if you want to shop at some of the area malls you will want a car for at least those days.
If you drive to the parks and park in their lots, you may also encounter a line waiting for a tram to your area of the parking lot to get to your car.
Lines are everywhere at WDW.
Enjoy your trip!

Angela-

My DD was 23 months last year when we took her and will be 35 months this year. She also has toddler line issues. I think 2 yr olds are just into instant gratification. :confused3

Anyway, we made the busses into an adventure for her. We call them the "Mickey bus" and she looks out the windows and calls out whenever she sees a "Mickey sign" (alot of the purple road signs on property have mickey ears). For her, the bus WAS a ride. We leave in 10 days and she has mentioned the Mickey bus as many times as she has mentioned eating Breakfast with Cinderella. We should have saved some money and just went downtown and rode the bus. ;)

So doing this may help. Maybe give the bus a shot before forking over the $$ for a cab....he may just get a huge kick out of the bus..if not, Plan B!!! :teeth:

I dont know if this is any help but my ds who just turned 2 and who will be 2 and 1/2 when we go to wdw is obsessed with anything with wheels. He loves cars and buses. Hopefully your ds will fall in love with these as well. We were at the mall the other day and ds started to cry as we were leaving. There was a bus outside. He stopped crying walked up to bus and the bus driver lets dh and ds go inside. It wasnt leaving for another 2 mins. Have a great trip. My ds always sleeps on the plane as well. One thing that saved us was the laptop with elmo dvd.
