Getting a Travel Trailer..

I've been looking at KZ. People seem happy with their quality. I like the Frontier 2205, but I don't see it in the 2008 lineup. It could have been moved to a different line, but it's still there for 2007.

It has bunks and isn't gigantic. Of course, if you get a new truck, gigantic will be fine!

They sell toy haulers as well.

Happy shopping!

Have fun looking...shopping for a camper is so much fun! You've already received all the advise I would give. TV rating and safetly being the most important. Check for local RV shows too. You can see so much in one trip...we still like to go and "dream" eventhough we are not in the market for another RV, haha!

Good Luck! :thumbsup2

We're looking at RVs also, but we're looking at the opposite spectrum. It's only two of us and we're looking at Clamshell T@Bs. (www.tab-rv.com). Less than 2000 lbs and virtually no setup at camp. My Sport Trac will pull it just fine. I am adding a transmission cooler for extra insurance.

I agree with Stackster about the ToyHauler. We had a TT and put our golf cart in the bed of the truck. It was a total pain and not much fun to get on and off. We ended up taking two cars to Disney, one for the TT and one for the trailer and cart. We would have never been able to afford it if we didn't live so close. I have seen other people do it, but it always seems to look like a major production to get it up in the truck. Take it from someone who has been there, getting a cart on and off a full size truck is no picnic.:sad2:

Like the others said, having the right tow vehicle is the most important decision or choice that you'll have to make. Be wary of salesman who tell you not to worry about the tow ratings.

So right! This is a sickness campers go through. Buy camper, pull it one time with current tow vehicle. Upgrade to bigger tow vehicle (usually a truck). Truck pulls it just fine, need golf cart to go in back of truck. Then, because you have a bigger truck, you need a bigger camper, probably a 5th wheel. Now up to bigger truck with 5th wheel attached. Still need to get cart down there, so wife and suburban, and kids are pulling new utility trailer with old cart. Get the ultimate camping set up, need to customize old golf cart. :lmao: Just be prepared for spending tons of money because, with camping "sickness", something always changes!:rotfl2:

I like the sickness line. I have hauled carts on truck before and while I do not really like it, beats renting 1 when I arrive. Lots more looking to do. Maybe I can convince Peg to take the F-150 and get me a bigger truck??????/

we are looking at the toy hauler, because my first foray with the new truck/ramps/golf cart nearly killed me. The rear ramp gave out when it wasn't tied to the bumper enough, i thought i was a goner.

anyone wanna buy some ramps?

I have ramps to unload my 4 wheeler from my truck and I rolled my nephews 660 Grizzly on me last year. I pushed it off with my legs as it was coming towards me. I too though I was gone. I had it too steep. I couldn't imagine unloading a golf cart. No way.

I spent $300 to get wider ramps, they work better, but i'm afraid of scraping the back of the cart, plus the tailgate is dying a slow death, first due to the accident, 2nd due to me being extra extra careful, and going slow.

Anybody out there had experience hauling GC's on tandem trailers with a camper/5th wheel? We have seen it done several times and wondered how difficult that is. We are considering a toy hauler, but most I've seen are like living in a garage.

MBMacs, sounds like you may need to upgrade to a F350. That's what we did when we towed a TT with a golf cart in the bed. No one here seems to talk about Airstreams, but they do make a great product. We had an Airstream TT for 20 years, and it was in great shape when we traded it.

L O L:rotfl: Especially if u are a DISNEY CAMPER....

absolutely incorrect, we skipped and went right to the 5th wheel toy hauler:rotfl2:

I agree about the salesman and not caring about tow vehicles. We were looking around local dealers on Saturday to look at the smallest stuff they had on the lot. Most of the small TTs they had were in the 3800 - 6000 lb range. The upper limits of my Sport Trac is 5000 lbs. They were all saying "Oh no problems" You can tow this.

Even with what we are going to buy (a T@B that maxes out at 2000 lbs), we will probably get a weight distribution hitch and a transmission cooler.

I may be wrong, but I just can't imagine myself going any bigger!

We have a Fleetwood Mallard 29' with 4 bunks in back and just love it - even as our kids are growing there is still lots of room for them and their things in the back and we have our own bed up front. It is easy to tow and has held up well. We camp a lot and it still looks like new

The Mallard is one of the trailers we are looking at, we liked the layout, but are awaiting the weight info.

Unfortunately, you can only haul double trailers in a handful of states and they are generally in the upper midwest. I think you can/could also in Fla. with a fifth wheel but if you're heading down I-95 in SC or Ga, you're probably going to get busted. :confused3

We also have looked at several toy haulers at the NC RV shows and yes, my wife couldn't stand them inside because of the "garage" interiors.

How much weight does a golf cart add. We are starting our search for a TT also. I was curious about the TH.

I have a friend who got busted in FL for pulling a trailer behind his 5er. I looked it up and it isn't legal in FL. Just traded the TT for a Lerado 5er with 4 bunks in the front...leaving Friday for the Fort...can't wait. I too was all for a toy hauler but the wife picked this one out and we all know she has to be happy, not me. Good luck and enjoy whatever you buy.

Air streams are beautiful TT's but they don't seem to make them for families. The ones I have seen at RV shows don't have bunks.

We had trouble with our second TT. It sweat a lot and the moisture went into the walls and rotted the wood. We looked hard for a aluminum framed unit to replace it. The aluminum is also lighter than the wood. We ended up with a Sunnybrook. Like they said, we got a bigger truck to pull it!

Hope this helps! Good Luck!
