Getting a Travel Trailer..

Just my two cents. I'm new and planning a trip to FW in August and stumbled upon your board during my research. We have a bunk house, which is great to store stuff but nobody wants to sleep on the bunks! They complain they are too crowded and cramped. A single bunk over a double would be better (more open) or I wish we had just got a trailer with the 2 queens and my boys could have slept there and my daughter on the couch.

I was hoping you would say that Mac. If somebody is going to put the screws to you at the door it's not going to stop. I'll be bringing my laptop and I'll show you some models that I think you would be good with your present truck. I think you should get some kind of toy hauler being that you have a golf cart. By the way, you gonna give me some marinade recipes so I can make some good kabobs lol. I got all the meat today just need to marinade it when I get ready.

My extensive culinary training has led me to many a recipe I can not duplicate.......:rotfl: We used garlic and onion powder with red wine, worcester sauce, and montral seasoning on the Beef kabobs Peg got @ Kroger. Peppers and onions already to go. The chicken was just some salt and peper and onion I think. Will add fresh lemon juice while grilling. Also I took your idea of shrimp. Peg's gona get a bag of frozen shrimp, and I am thinking some grilled shrimp in a garlic butter lime sauce. She also got some type of Buffalo Chicken Sausage, not sure what that is but she thought I would like it. Everyone better be hungry.:thumbsup2

My hubby said "Yes" to buying a camper! I'm so excited.

We are still in the research faze. I want to say "Thanks" for all of your comments and insight. :grouphug: It's helped a great deal in figure out what features we want (and don't want);)

I know I'll check in often for more insight!!! :rotfl:

You will have great fun and wonderful family memories. Enjoy the research, it will be well worth the time!

We had the same advise when we were looking into purchasing our travel trailer. Our kids were 9 and 13 at the time. We had friends with kids the same ages and older..and they told us they didn't get too much time with the bunks. Once they are adult sized(as in the case of the 13 year old) they really don't want to be cramped into the bunks. We opted one of the bedroom area with twin beds..and now 7 years later the 9 year old is
6'2" tall...I'm glad we went with the twin idea instead of bunks.(my husband and I actually use the sofa bed) ..there would be no way my son would fit in a bunk. I think it really depends on how old your kids are when you purchase with bunks, and how long you intend to keep your unit. Once they hit 12 or 13 they are really shooting up, and while still kids..need more adult sleeping accomodations. Our unit is now seven years old and We are looking into units with the slide out bunk rooms that feature a jacknife sofa or sofa bed and a flip up bunk now. Sort of den like. Hubby and I want the bedroom back! (and the sofa bed hurts his back!)Especially since mostly its my husband and myself camping...and the kids come occasionaly. So we want a spot for them when they come...but also a more pleasant and private area for ourselves now.
I'd also agree the that bunks that are wider on the bottom..more the size of an actual twin bed are a much better option if available to you.
