Getting a Deluxe Pass for Discounts?

We will be in Anaheim June 25-July 3. Our plans include going to the beach and Legoland. We will probably try to do a couple of beach days, DL nights. Also we plan on 3-4 days just at DLR.

My question is, should I get the Deluxe AP for myself for the discounts? It is highly unlikely that we would make another DL trip in the next 12 months. We live in Texas and take one vacation a year. Otherwise, we plan to buy 6 day hoppers.

We will be staying out Hojo with the Mousesavers rate. It looks like the AP would save us about $30-40 there.

We will do 2 character meals for sure, maybe a third.

It looks like that the AP will be worth it. The only blackout days are Saturday June 27th which we were planning as our Legoland day and July 3 which is the day that we check out and begin our looooong drive home. We did not plan on that being a park day.

The Deluxe AP seems like a great deal to me, but is there something I am missing? Thanks!

If you've done the math and find that you come out ahead, then I think you already have your answer. Have fun!

There is a $60 difference between the Deluxe and 6-day PH. If you multiply that by how many people there are in your group, then that's the number you want beat in discounts. There are dining discounts, but none in merchandise.

You only need to have 1 AP to get the discounts tho so if you can beat $60 then do it!

Oh, hah, if you are only using one AP, then it seems possible.

For some reason, I read that you were getting one for everyone, which is :scared1:

Since you just go once a year, plan your next trip right before your pass expires. That will give you two trips on your pass and really make it worth while!

Oh yes, good point, in this case tho you would want to upgrade everyones parkhopper to an AP. :)

The one thing that the AP holder would miss out on is the one day of MM that would come with everyone else's 6 day tickets. But if you're going for 6 days...I personally wonder...is one MM day really necessary? :goodvibes

And yes there's a 20% discount for AP holders at HoJo, vs the what I assume is a 15% discount through mousesavers (same discount for disboard members and members of the other sites that hojo actually advertises on).

The deluxe gives 10% off most meals and discounts at various places in DTD...you can look up the DTD discounts on disneyland.com, or they shold tell you about them when you get the AP.

If you have time to stop into a southern CA Costco (and if you belong to Costco), you might be able to pick up their voucher for an AP...it's the same cost, 269, but it comes with a voucher for a $50 Disney giftcard! You get the giftcard when you exchange your voucher. So if you just wanted to get the family's tickets ahead of time, but then stop in at Costco to get the AP for the adult who will have it...you could end up $50 ahead. And if by chance the Costco is out, well the AP at the gate is the same cost as at Costco...

Yup I so agree with Bumbershoot!!!

Don't Do It !!!!! :scared1:

A year & a half ago I bought one to save $50 bucks.

So i've been to DLR 5 times since & have spent over a couple of Gs at Walt's Park. :rotfl: :lmao:

But seriously, it's big time worth it....plus you get web site deals and neat AP stuff......& you start contemplating quick trips west to coincide with the down & dirty AP hotel rates. :woohoo:

You could always use the MM & then upgrade to the pass!!! Just a thought....

Well yeah true. You have to factor how much money you'd be spending to actually get the discounts and if you'd really use them in the alternative.

They would need to show the AP, most likely at check-in, to get the AP rate at HoJo. They could always check with the hotel, but it seems to add a layer of complication.

Perhaps, but we stayed there in January with the AP rate and they never asked to see the pass (DW and I both had them). Probably depends on who is working the desk at the time.

I agree! We received 2 free APs that we are activating in May and I've now become obsessed with trying to plan DL trips! Already have 3 on the calendar. And last night as my DD (5) was falling off to sleep out of the blue she started crying and said 'Mommy I miss Sasha the dolphin! I don't want to go to DL. I want to go to Sea World San Diego to see Sasha again' :scared1:
All I could think was 'your gonna go to DL and like it!' :upsidedow

As others have noted, having an AP almost always means that you will take unplanned trips. Why? Because you can and you don't have to pay for park admission.

I have one word of warning regarding the deluxe. Yes, it's cheaper, but you have to be absolutely positive that you can always avoid blackout days. The one year I had the deluxe, I would have been better off with the premium because I couldn't avoid one blackout day. Between the higher premium discounts and my blackout ticket, premium would have been a better deal.

An addition to Sleepless Knights post, if you do decide to go on a blackout day and you do decide to upgrade you can use the $40 upgrade fee towards your upgrade. :) And if you add parking to one of your Deluxe APs you will credit for that if you upgrade as well because parking is included with the Premium APs. :)
