Is it Ok if we take the 6 & 4 Year old in the Mintzer Bar at Grand F.... ???????? Not sure about that ....... ;)

Never taken my kids to Mizner's, but I have taken them to the lounges at several of the other Deluxe resorts (sometimes when we are waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant; other times so I can get a cocktail and they can get some sort of fruity drink). It's never been an issue and I have seen many other kids in the lounges.

When my mom was a bartender when I was a child I was told over and over DO NOT SIT AT THE BAR I'LL GET FIRED! It was ok for kids to sit at the tables, though, and order shirley temples and eat bar cheese and crackers :O

We had dinner in the lounge at WL with our 5-year-old. When we walked in, I asked a waitress if it was okay to bring our son in. She said it was fine so long as he didn't sit at the bar.

Mizner's can get crowded. If you can't get a table or don't wish to have your kids in the lounge, you can stake out a place to sit in the lobby and send someone to grab cocktails and bring them down or sit in any of the occasional seating areas around the lobby levels.

I know in some states it's illegal for kids to be in the lounge, and some illegal to sit at the bar, but in WDW, my kids have sat at the bar in several resorts, mostly the Polynesian's bar (inside) and have ordered fun drinks. No one has ever said that it's not ok.

We love Mizner's, enjoy!

The only time we had an issue was at the bar in the Poly and that was from another guest not the CMs. She felt it was totally wrong for the 2 DGSs (5 & 8) to be seated at the bar while DSD ordered drinks waiting for us to get there- there were no tables or seats available in the waiting area. She made some rather nasty comments on parenting skills in the course of it. It really came down to the fact that she couldn't find a seat at the bar herself. They were there waiting for us and for the buzzer to go off so we could be seated for dinner and were there really only long enough to get the drinks. I have a feeling DSD told her what she could do with her comments. We have since used the same bar while we waited for our table and again the kids sat with us with no comments from anyone.

Okay, flame me if you want. But if I went into a crowded bar and found young children sitting at the bar I'd be p***** off royally if I couldn't find a seat. Kids do not belong there, and in my state it's against the law.

Any other place other than at Disney, I would totally agree with you. At Disney, I think it's different. It's a place where adults love to ride Dumbo and meet with characters and children get to drink fancy drinks (non-alcoholic of course) out of pineapples at the bar. We pay more for the fancy pineapple drinks than we do for DH's beer.

Would you still be "p***** off royally" if you couldn't find a seat because adults were sitting at the bar? What's the difference? A crowded bar is a crowded bar and kids are clearly allowed at the WDW lounges.

I agree with PP that I'd be a little upset if children were taking the seats at the bar. Regardless of the cost of the non-alcoholic pineapple, the 'adult pineapple' costs a lot more.

But Connecticut is one of the very few states that outright ban alcohol sales on Sundays as well. Should Disney World adopt that policy too? Disney World is in Florida so you need to be aware of those laws, not the ones in Connecticut.

Ct only bans the sale of alcohol from the stores. Any one of legal age can buy drinks at bars, resturants, fairs, entertainment venues etc. on Sundays.

WDW is a place for families...if you want all adult, you're in the wrong place.

Agreed!

This comes up alot at all inclusives. Sorry but if my kids want to enjoy a virgin drink at the bar, they will! They never stay long, like adults do!

In the US, I don't let them sit at the bar because in NY they aren't allowed and that is what they are used to.

As for CT, uhhh, they just drive me crazy! While vacationing in the Mystic area, we've had to make that drive to Rhode Island several times! We need to start planning better...LOL

But what if my 29 year old son, who is not a drinker, was sitting at the bar with us and ordered only a Coke? Would someone be royally ticked off because he wasn't paying the price of a cocktail? A child would be no different from this scenario.

Exactly. Just because a bar serves alchol doesn't mean you have to drink alcohol to be there. That is often my stance with the AI issue. It is a beverage place and everyone has the right to be there in my mind. And for people who say children shouldn't hear the conversations, I wonder what people actually talk about. My conversations in public with my husband could be heard by anyone, they are not R rated! I would be respectful to others whether someone 21+ or 10 was sitting next to me.

Just my 2 cents, but I think what gets some people is that bars are typically for adults and therefore an adult atmosphere (yes, I realize this is Disney) and children abound. I'm not really sure the price of the drink is what is at issue.

I see both sides. When my son (now a teen) was younger, it was appreciated when he could sit at or near the bar with us when waiting for tables for dinner. But, some folks, look forward to enjoying adult conversation/atmosphere when sitting at the bar with their alcoholic drinks.

I don't think most people want their children hanging in a bar other than waiting for a table or maybe the parents want to relax with a drink and I think that it is fine in moderation:goodvibes

Just wanted to add that adult conversation (in my opinioon) doesn't mean R rated. Just, typically Bars are geared for adults. Conversation may just mean talking in normal tones. We all know that kids sometimes have a hard time sitting still, etc. Not a problem, just a fact for some kids.

I seem to remember that in CT anyone underage may not sit at bars but may drink whatever their parents or guardians allow them to a the table. It cannot be ordered for the child but they may partake from a parents beverage without penalty. It was awhile ago I heard this and the law may have changed but at one time it was the case.
