Getting a 1BR for July

Would it be really difficult to rent points for a 1br at VWL for July rez. in May? Or should I say, will a 1br be available at VWL or any of the other DVC resorts this close to travel? I don't think we can commit until sometime in May.

You wont know until you try. On short notice everything is iffy, but not impossible.

If you are flexible on resort choice (sounds like you are) and even on the travel dates, you might have very good luck. We've changed reservations for summer stays as late as 60 days out with no problem so far.

Why not make the reservation now and cancel in May if it doesn't work out? You'd be more than 30 days out so you wouldn't have any penalty for cancelling.

VWL might be impossible to get given it's small size. OKW will probably be the most available resort, but with SSR&S opening in May, rooms there might be open or people wanting to transfer their ressie there might open other resorts.

Granny's suggestion is a good one, if the owner renting to you doesn't have to borrow points to rent and/or isn't near the end of their use year and/or 6 month banking period.

The OP should definitely make a point of discussing cancellation terms with the owner prior to agreeing to rent points. Many owners consider renting a "final" transaction. They will work with the renter to reschedule but will not refund $$.

Each owner & renter is free to negotiate terms - this is just meant as a reminder to know what you are agreeing to.

IMHO, it would be easier to do if/when you are sure of your dates and ready to commit.
